New Year, New Plans

No, it's not a New Year resolution, you won't see me writing one, but I do make some plans and put them on paper, or on the blockchain, to be precise as it's better than writing them down on a paper you throw away when you're cleaning your study.

First of all, this is my first post of the year, so Happy New Year everyone! 🥂🍾🎉Let's have a better year than the last one we have just left behind.

The title of my post says: "New Year, New Plans". The New Year is here, we can't really decide when to get it as it comes on its own, but the second part, "new plans" is up to me, so it's my job to make a plan and carry it out as well.

Last year was a good one for me, despite the problems I had (those appear each year anyway, no matter what you do, just different ones), but from photography point of view, it wasn't the greatest. The amount of photos I take is huge, but those were mostly taken at exhibitions and events, so they are not exactly artistic photos, so to speak. This year I'd like to change that and allocate some time to this type of photography, because it's a lot of fun, it makes you a better photographer and I miss it too.

The photo exhibitions I'm visiting are very motivating, so I just need to find the time and figure out what I want to photograph. Till then, let's see what I have in store for you today.

Given the topic of this post, I'd like to show you some of the photos I took at my last photo exhibition (I think it was the last one) as these are really the photos most of the photographers would be happy to take. This was a shared photo exhibition by two photographers, Emese Gál and Erika Simon, called "Hat, Scarf, Look". You can read my post about the first two parts here and here.

Emese Gál - Affection

Portraits like this always take me back to my childhood and remind me of those old ladies we met in my grandparents' village. That was a different world that does not exist anymore. There are a few representatives, like the old lady on the photo, but along with them, this world will disappear. A world where simplicity means happiness and people can still be genuine.

Emese Gál - The freckled one

If I were to say a couple of things about this photo, that would be pure happiness and genuine reaction, which in this fake world, is hard to find these days. It's a fantastic photo.

Erika Simon - Those eyes

They say "the eyes are the mirror of the soul" and the saying applied here i think. You see innocence, but what I love more is where the photo was taken. It's an old, wooden porch and the kid dressed in traditional fold costume with a hat adds a lot of value to the photo.

Erika Simon - Affection is ageless

Another photo that has a lot to say, if you know how to read it. Two people grew old together and they can still enjoy the small things of life. In this day of age, where people get divorced in a few years, or don't even get married, couples like the one on the photo are hard to find and capturing moments like that is even harder.

Emese Gál - Two hats, two worlds

Whoever came up with the title, deserves to be rewarded. It's spot on, just perfect. It is exactly what you see on the photo. Grandfather and grandson, two people with two hats, representing different worlds.

Erika Simon - Prayer

This photo should be an award winning one. It has a lot to say, but I'll let you tell me what you see or what the photo tells you.

This time I can consider myself lucky. Most of the times I'm battling reflection and glare, but here the photos were printed on the best paper possible and there were not covered by glass. Can one ask for more? I don't think so.

The other thing that needs mentioning here is the photographers' choice to go with monochrome. It's priceless as it let's you focus more on the details, which is not always possible if the photo is colored (or colorful?).
