Looking Back ESP/ENG

I remember this quinceañera and how challenging the photo session was because the girl would often scrunch up her face. The photos I liked the most from that session were the ones where she directed her gaze downward. At the time, I didn’t have much experience efficiently guiding poses during a shoot, but I was eager to learn, so I was still figuring it all out.

Recuerdo estos 15 años y que a esta chica le costaba mucho la sesión fotográfica y encogía la cara. Así que las fotos que más me gustaron fueron estas donde dirige la mirada hacia abajo. En ese momento, no tenía tanta experiencia dirigiendo con eficiencia las poses para fotografiar, pero sí tenía muchas ganas de aprender, así que lo estaba descubriendo.

During this session, I worked with a former colleague who, at the time, didn’t have a strong grasp of many aspects of social photography. Over time, he ended up leaving this type of photography altogether. This experience with him taught me how difficult it can be to convey how to do this job well or how to embark on a path of constant improvement. It also clarified for me that, just as there are people who are skilled at home maintenance or trading, not everyone is suited to be a social photographer.

En esta pauta trabajé con un excompañero que, para ese momento, no dominaba muy bien muchos aspectos de la fotografía de sociales, y la verdad es que a la larga terminó retirándose de este tipo de fotografías. Esta experiencia con él me sirvió para entender que es muy difícil transmitir cómo hacer el trabajo bien o cómo entrar en un camino de constante mejora. Y también me quedó claro que, así como hay personas que son buenas para el mantenimiento de casas o personas buenas para el trading, las personas que son fotógrafos de sociales no son todas.

These quinceañera photos are quite old, but I look back on them fondly. I enjoy revisiting my journey and comparing myself to who I am as a photographer today.

Estos 15 años son muy antiguos, pero los recuerdo con cariño y me gusta revisitar mi camino y compararme con mi yo de hoy.
