My holiday plans got flipped on their head this year - the Omicron struck my family merely days before the start of the holidays putting tons of family plans and gatherings onto hold.
After cancelling flights, reaching out to friends and other family, it was decided we'd go spend some time on the island with other relatives. While I was supposed to be spending Christmas with my parents and siblings back home, I ended up spending my christmas day in a place I'd never been with people I didn't really know... it was different to say the least.
With an abnormally December for the area I was pleasantly surprised though - I would still get my White Christmas this year! With the eve of the 24th upon us massive snowflakes fell from the sky and started clumping on the ground. It was stunning and beautiful to watch as the night got quiet and the ground became a blanket of white fluffy snow.
I decided to awake before the rest of the crew on the 25th and treated myself to an early morning walk through a local park before heading back to the warmth of the house. It was about -15C... about 20C colder than a typical Christmas day for the area!
This park was more than I needed on Christmas. Away from family I found an immense joy in exploring this magical twisted forest by myself. To mimic a Christmas poem- 'Twas the night before morn' of Christmas, when all through the house forest, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
It was magical. A beautiful Christmas morning. And one that filled my heart with much needed warmth in the cold winter air.
I hope you've all had a wonderful holiday season, filled with family memories, joy, and laughter. Happy New year to you all!
Oh, and I did end up making it to see my family after they returned to their health, and still got my late Christmas with my family 😊
What a beautiful way to find peace and solitude during a usually hectic time.
The stress levels and emotional rollercoaster these last two weeks - it has been a trip haha I kept wanting to hop back on the HIVE and see what everyone was up to. But I just couldn't with all that was happening. This park saved me mentally that morning.
