Huge schools of convict tangs and whitespotted surgeonfish, covering the reef here in Lana'i.
I took my guests on a wonderful snorkel, off the coast of the Hawaiian Island of Lana'i today. The conditions were wonderful, with clear water and calm winds. The sun was out, showing off the beautiful coral below. The snorkel spot we went to is called the Aquarium, and is located in the corner of Manele Bay. Check out some of the photos from todays adventure.
I always tell people that snorkeling is your window into a whole new world. Underwater photography is a great way to share that world.
Black surgeonfish facing a goldring surgeon fish.
Convict tangs schooling together as they hover over the reef. They will scrap off bits of algae, acting like the reef's lawnmowers.
One of my guest holds a collector sea urchin. They are quite spikey, but not too dangerous if handled delicately.
To get this picture I had to freedive down underwater, hold my breath, and compose the shot in my underwater camera. I was using a small olympus tough point and shoot, made for underwater.
This turned out to be one of my favorite shots. It has a big school of convict tangs moving to the left, while snorkelers hover above, enjoying the show.
A school of square-spot goatfish hovering over the sand.
A rare saddleback butterflyfsh tries to elude me, but I managed to get one good photo of it.
I love sharing the underwater world with others. And, if you can't come out snorkeling with me, then underwater photos is the best way.
As always, keep traveling,

Beautiful shots my friend, I think it is doubly difficult to get good photos underwater, congratulations.
