Hanging out here at Cox beach, Tofino, Vancouver Island. Looks like Surf’s up! Let’s check it out. Personally I have never tried surfing — yet. Never say never. It does look like a lot of fun, but first and foremost though, before I would consider lessons, would need to get into better shape. Currently I am in average shape, but I don’t think that would be good enough to handle some mean waves. Also would likely need to take “advanced” swimming lessons as well. How about you, have you tried surfing before? Let’s us know in the comments below. Thanks for stopping by.

Well as an old guy that took up surfing very late, I'd say yes definitely give it a go. If you're a water person, there's nothing like being out there just floating on the waves and hanging out. Catching a wave and riding is just a bonus.
Set expectations properly, yes take a lesson or two. You won't be catching any "mean waves" for a long time, lol. This is my second year, and I'm still at the 1-3 footers. Anything over 2-3 feet and you will struggle just getting past the breaks for awhile until you learn to duck dive and turtle roll.
For newbies, it's recommended to start near lifeguard stations, just in case until you get more comfortable.
Exercise: It's certainly strenuous if the waves are decent. Hardest part is learning the popup, watch some videos and practice at home to build the flexibility, core strength, and squats.
Have fun! Of course we all dream of catching that big wave and riding for minutes, but it's still a blast just hanging on the waves and even just riding the foam in.
Only problem for me is that we don't live near the ocean. At least at the moment. Sounds like this has become a passion of yours! The whole idea of learning to surf just sounds amazing really. I hope to give it a whirl sooner rather than later.
Well if you ever visit, Flagler Beach has several local businesses that provide lessons on the beach there and they provide the boards. Was the best money spent on 2-3 hours of fun in many years. Enough that I bought my own board after two lessons. You may not want to go that far, but try it out for sure wherever you end up going.
I will. You are in Florida right?
Yes, within driving distance to one of the best surfing beaches, Flagler Beach.
Maybe a good thing I didn't move here sooner, My career would have definitely suffered from all the beach time. Now that I'm older, my time is more limited and I can still focus on work for a while. lol.
Enjoy the beach life!
Some nice tame waves to learn how to surf! I started with waves much bigger and it was a challenge. It's probably why I never learned to enjoy it as well! Still it's always fun to have a day at the beach even if the water is just a bit chilly! Great shots! Those kids are already learning to surf, probably the best time to learn!
!DUO
You just got DUO from @thebighigg.

Learning as a kid is the ticket the say. Next best thing is enthusiasm and a good sensei!
I've never done surf either, but here it's not windy or wavy enough for that... Of course avoid shark zones 😄
Yes, no shark zone areas only!!!
I've never surfed, but it looks like a lot of fun and it must be exciting to ride a wave. Never say never, maybe this year will be the year.
Yes, definitely give it a shot someday when you have the time!
It looks like people are having a lot of fun surfing, the shape of the waves is beautiful but challenging.
Looks to be an action packed activity to enjoy!
