A Walk Through Tradition and Modernity at Rochor River

in Photography Lovers2 months ago

After being stuck indoors since Friday, I finally had the chance to go for a nice walk earlier today. The weather has been acting strangely over the past few days, making it quite inconvenient to go out. So, when the opportunity arose to spend some time outdoors, I took it as a sign to stretch my legs and bring my camera along.

I chose the area around Rochor River because I also planned to have dinner there. The river itself is rather narrow and not particularly remarkable, but the area has its own charm.

What I like about this spot is how they’ve developed the riverbanks into a simple park where people can sit and relax. During lunchtime, I often see office workers coming here to take a break, which is a much healthier practice than staying cooped up in their offices.

This part of the city is fascinating because of its mix of commercial and government buildings, tall apartment complexes, large modern hotels, small traditional inns, a mosque, and even a Malay cemetery.

I began my walk along the Rochor River, which was quite pleasant. It seems I wasn’t the only one eager to enjoy this space—there were plenty of others strolling or relaxing, many of whom appeared to be residents of the nearby apartment buildings.

The residential areas are generally peaceful, while the commercial areas are a bit busier, likely due to office workers heading home at this hour. I also noticed a few tourists walking or biking around the area. I can’t help but feel a bit sorry for the tourists visiting the country over the past few days, as they may find the timing unfortunate—unable to fully enjoy the outdoors because of the rain.

The Malabar Mosque marked the endpoint of my walk. I also felt a slight drizzle, which I took as a sign to cut my walk short for now. The mosque itself is considered a landmark in the area and has been recognized as one of Kampong Glam's heritage sites.

The turquoise color of the mosque makes it stand out in an environment where many buildings are painted in warm, striking hues. Not to mention the mosque's stunning architecture, with its dome roof that stands out among the towering buildings surrounding it.

To wrap up, my walk around Rochor River offered a refreshing escape from being indoors, despite the unpredictable weather. Exploring the blend of modern and traditional landmarks, like the iconic Malabar Mosque, was a reminder of the rich history and diversity this area holds. Sometimes, even a simple stroll can reveal the beauty and charm tucked away in the heart of the city.

This is interesting, never explored this part of Singapore before. Nice sightings

There's nothing much to see but I do enjoy walking here (not too crowded) & plenty of nice restaurants too.

Amazing mosque

Indeed. It stands out even with the tall buildings around.

I agree with you that a simple stroll could make you more appreciative in life. There's a natural beauty in walking though. I usually walk when I am stressed or too many things to mind so that I can think properly.

You're right about the benefits of going for a walk (especially if done regularly); and it's not just physical, it also improves my psychological well being.

Thanks for checking my post :)

That's great to heqr it from you! My pleasure reading your post too.
