Amid the rolling hills of Fleming County in northeastern Kentucky is the little community of Nepton. There, nestled between Johnson Creek and the old Maysville and Lexington Railroad tracks, is a five acre flower farm by the name of Loving Farm.
Loving Farm is growing more than just flowers, however. Marietta Labbato and her wife Perriee Williamson have been cultivating a sense of community since moving here in the early days of the pandemic.
To that end, Marietta (pictured above) and Perriee (below, on right) have converted an old tobacco barn into an event space and gathering place they call the Nepton Warehouse.
This past Saturday they put together a right proper shindig, with the band Hogtown taking the stage in the Nepton Warehouse.
A whole mess of folks turned out to hear them play a mix of old time, bluegrass and mid-century honky tonk.
With all that's going on in the world, it was nice to kick back and share a moment couple hours of good music and good company.
There's just something about music that brings people together, and these guys were good at it.
With both a bass maker and a violin maker in the band, you could say they knew their instruments inside and out.
Altogether too soon it was time for the final song. Had a grand old time, hopefully will see Hogtown here again when the weather gets better.
Even after the music was done, folks hung around for a while visiting and socializing. Slowly they trickled away to make for home until it was only a neighbor's dog and the bass player left, who treated the dog to special encore of 'Miller's Song.'
Looks like such a fun evening, where we used to love before there was an active music community and we got to know many of the bands and went to their gigis and open mic nights, my wife sang a few times with the bands, me i cant sing but i love the music and snapping shots of hte bands
have a great day
It was blast. Those communities are so nice, used to be on the fringes of the one here in Louisville but it was back before I got a DSLR , now I'm making up for lost time.
have a better one!
