Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a few more black and white versions of the zoo photographs I took recently!

Furry Monochrome Monday

The zoo photos are going to continue this week for another edition of Monochrome Monday!

The zoo animals that we got to see are good, in that we weren't really super packed in there so we got to do some good exploration of the different exhibits. We've been to ones before where we were fighting other people to see the animals and that's not really that fun, as it makes also for difficulty getting good photographs of the creatures! Thankfully this one didn't have such an issue, which really worked out for us. The giraffe here was absolutely focused on me for a good 2 minutes, wondering what the hell this thing was that the two-legged dude was pointing at me!? He was ready to square up that's for sure lol

One of the really cool parts of the exhibits is that you get to go into some of them to get close to, and feed some of the animals. One such exhibit is the deer encounter! You get to walk into their enclosure and they sell food, unfortunately corn nibs, and you get to find out which ones are interested in getting some food. This also means though that the ones who aren't, are likely within pretty good distance of you to get some pictures. They too want to get fed but they don't trust us enough to come close.

There were quite a number of deer in the exhibit, I was surprised. I know that there were several males, such as this one, who were intent on keeping a close eye on me and my son as we were going about trying to feed the others. They didn't get too close unfortunately. In the past we came here, we were able to feed quite a bit of deer and they came right up to you. For whatever reason today that was not the case but that's okay, we still got to feed some from our hand and threw corn nibs to others for them to enjoy.

Some of the best pictures, and also the most challenging to think about mentally, are the ones of the various species of primate! I don't know what exactly this monkey was but I was able to convince a few of them to look in my direction for some nice shots like this. I do feel bad for these monkeys because the cages they live in are quite a bit smaller than their natural range but who knows if these monkey's were stolen and then rehabilitated back to a place like this. That's what helps me sleep at night, and that's important :D.

The trick with getting the monkey to look at you is that you've got to be quick! We can make noises and stuff which they are sadly used to, but you have to make a variety of noises and hope that some of them are unfamiliar to them, or they are curious about the specific sound and they will turn towards you for a SPLIT second. I was lucky enough to do it while I had the camera aimed and ready. I wanted his head a few minor degrees more towards looking directly at me, but I will take what I can get!

Thanks! These furry fellas were good for photos!

Did you actually move close to the animals while taking their pictures?
I love the monochrome images though

No I used a long distance lens!

Monkey is the most mischievous animal and makes people laugh a lot.

Yeah they get into some trouble!
