Looks like it was a lovely walk. The town where my wife grew up has four draw bridges in the town. You can always count on being late because you got stuck by a boat going down the river!

They should have ferries then ;) Prague, for instance, has almost a dozen of them. They are just small boats, but still fun to use. And their captains are often jolly fellows, one let me steer his boat once. I guess he was too tipsy to bother with possible consequences :)
Can the ferries take your car across the river? I think that is the big issue. I have doctor appointments on the other side of the river pretty regularly. That's cool that you got to steer the boat!
Well, that's kind their thing - they take you across a body of water :)
