📷 Romantic KLINGENBERG am Main (River)

Hello dear friends,

I recently paid a little visit to the small town of Klingenberg on the Lower Main, which has about 6000 inhabitants. Klingenberg is located on the right side of the Main and can be admired with its two very dominant vineyards very well from the so-called long towel, which is located on the other side of the Main. The long towel is a well-developed, partly 2-lane bypass road that leads from Miltenberg to Stockstadt near Aschaffenburg. If you leave at Wertheim Village, you can easily avoid a major traffic jam on the A3 motorway, and you also have the benefit of being able to drive directly through the two jewels of Wertheim and Miltenberg. In the past, this has often been used, so that Miltenberg now has a bypass road, just like the beautiful town of Bürgstadt directly near Miltenberg. Fortunately, the A3 motorway has also been widened all the way through the Spessart, so that the bypass is no longer completely congested all the time. So the bypass is only worthwhile if there is a mega traffic jam on the A3, or if, as I said, you want to enjoy the beautiful Lower Franconia a little more. Like I did with Klingenberg, for example, after 50 years of just driving past it ;-) ;-)

Hallo liebe Freunde,

kürzlich habe ich mal dem gut 6000 Einwohner zählenden Städtchen Klingenberg am Untermain einen kleinen Besuch abgestattet. Klingenberg liegt rechts vom Main und kann mit seinen zwei sehr dominanten Weinbergen sehr gut vom sogenannten langen Handtuch aus bestaunt werden, das auf der anderen Seite des Mains liegt. Das lange Handtuch ist eine gut ausgesbaute, teilweise 2 spurige, Umgehungstraße, die von Miltenberg bis nach Stockstadt bei Aschaffenburg führt. Fährt man bereits am Wertheim Village ab, so kann man einen großen Stau auf der Autobahn A3 gut umfahren, und hat dabei noch den Benefit, die beiden Schmuckstücke Wertheim und Miltenberg direkt durchfahren zu können. Davon wurde in der Vergangenheit auch öfter Gebrauch gemacht, so daß Miltenberg mittlerweile, genau wie das schöne Bürgstadt direkt bei Miltenberg, eine Umgehungstraße hat. Glücklicherweise hat man auch die Autobahn A3 auf der ganzen Strecke durch den Spessart verbreitert, so daß die Umgehungsstraße nicht mehr ständig völlig verstopft sind. Die Umgehung lohnt sich also nur noch bei einem Megastau auf der A3, oder wenn man wie gesagt das schöne Unterfranken ein wenig mehr genießen möchte. So wie ich es z.B. mit Klingenberg gemacht habe, nachdem ich 50 Jahre lang immer nur daran vorbeigerauscht bin. ;-) ;-)

As I mentioned earlier, Klingenberg, which lies at the foot of the Spessart, is known for its wine growing. You can also tell by the oversized wine glass in the car park directly in front of the town castle, where I was able to park for free. The Klingenberg Stadtschloß is a Renaissance building from 1560.

Wie ich bereits erwähnte ist Klingenberg, das am Fuße des Spessarts liegt, für seinen Weinanbau bekannt. Man kann es auch gut an dem überdimensionalen Weinglas auf dem Parkplatz direkt vor dem Stadtschloß erkennen, auf dem ich kostenlos parken konnte. Das Klingenberger Stadtschloß ist ein Rennaissancebau von 1560.

Klingenberg's cute town centre has a medieval feel with its many ornate half-timbered buildings and narrow alleyways, crowned of course by Klingenburg Castle, to which I will devote a separate article.

I had a magical moment for me personally when I took this photo. It shows the Main bridge in the late February sunlight. I like such situations because you simply have to be in the right place at the right time. Better late than too late, of course, I have to say something about the cover picture. I shot it on the Clingenburg. Another one of those moments that you just can't plan. You are there, you see it, and you quickly try to save it as a picture for eternity.

Einen für mich persönlich magischen Moment hatte ich beim Schiessen dieses Fotos. Es zeigt die Mainbrücke im späten Februarsonnenlicht. Ich mag solche Situationen, weil man einfach zum richtigen Zeitpunkt am richtigen Ort sein muß. Besser spät als zu spät muß ich natürlich auch was zum Titelbild sagen. Das habe ich auf der Clingenburg geschossen. Ein weitere dieser Momente, die man einfach nicht planen kann. Man ist vor Ort, sieht es, und versucht es schnell als Bild für die Ewigkeit aufzubewahren.
