These photos were taken in San Cristobal, Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
I arrived to this remote town in the west of Cuba for work reasons. At that time I was working as a photographer in a photo studio for Quinceañeras (the photos of 15 years are a great tradition in my country) and once finished the duty I went out camera in hand to explore the neighborhood.
Walking around I found a lake surrounded by large mountains and right next to it, a small village that stands on wooden pillars. A local explained to me that it was built this way to avoid the inundations that occur when the rain slides down the mountain and ends up accumulating in the area.
It is not my favorite style of photography but this place deserved it and honestly I quite liked the result.
If the beauty and singularity of the site were not enough, this trip has even more significance for me because I made it a week before the first positive cases of coronavirus were detected in my country.
After that, everyone can imagine what happened: fear, uncertainty, quarantine and masks.

Estas fotos las tomé en San Cristobal, Pinar del Río, Cuba.
Llegué a este alejado pueblo del occidente cubano por motivos de trabajo. En aquellos momentos trabajaba como fotógrafo en un Estudio de Fotografía para Quinceañeras (las fotos de 15 años son una gran tradición en mi país) y una vez terminada la faena salí cámara en mano a explorar la zona.
Andando encontré un lago rodeado por grandes montañas y justo al lado, un pequeño poblado que se alza sobre pilares de madera. Un local de la zona me explicó que lo construyeron así para evitar las inundaciones que se producen cuando la lluvia se desliza montaña abajo y acaba acumulándose en la zona.
No es mi estilo de fotografía favorito pero este lugar se lo merecía y sinceramente el resultado me gustó bastante.
Por si fuera poca la belleza y singularidad del sitio, este viaje tiene mayor significancia para mi ya que lo hice una semana antes de que los primeros casos positivos de coronavirus fueran detectados en mi país.
Luego de esto, todos pueden imaginar lo que pasó: miedo, incertidumbre, cuarentena y mascarillas.

Reconozco la sensación de ese último viaje antes de la pandemia. Yo también recuerdo el mío con mucho afecto y ganas de volver.
Que bonito San Cristobal, luce como un lugar muy tranquilo, donde se respira aire fresco. Bonitas fotos.
