A Tour Around the Premises of St. Andrew

Hello Everyone

Today, i strolled around the streets near St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Obosi. It is considered the oldest church in Obosi, Anambra state, Nigeria.

The church was built in 1882, meaning that it had been in existence for 78 years before Nigeria was created on October 1, 1960. However, the church does not look as old as its history suggests. According to records, the foundation of the church was laid by Mr. J. Strong of Sierra Leone, and the vast land was purchased for two pounds ten shillings.

it has three main gates of entrance, one main gate and two smaller ones. The main entrance gate is made of steel rods that allow you see through the church premises. I wonder if that was its original gate since its existence, well i doubt. The entrance of the main gate is beautified with flowers, and the ground id made of concrete pavement, providing a walkway for people going in and out of the church also as well as for vehicles. There are two gates at the main entrance, one is identified as "IN" while the other is marked "OUT".

Upon entering inside, you will see the security post-a round, spherical structure positioned between the "IN" and "OUT" gates.

You can see how beautiful it looks inside. There is a walkway that leads strength from the "IN" gate to the church entrance door. The walkway is beautified with flowers on both sides, the flowers also serves as a demarcation, marking the end of the concrete pavement. There are also solar streetlights, though few in number.

The Beccariophoenix alfredii on both sides is very beautiful. On the left side, there is an area designated as playground. It is equipped with children's play equipment and enclosed with steel fencing to restrict entry. It gives the impression that there might be a school somewhere in the compound or so i think.

Taking a look at the tall tower, this is the tallest I have seen so far in any church in the eastern part of Nigeria, frankly speaking. I wonder if there are steps provided for climbing it or if it is just an erected structure, signifying the existence of a church. I can’t wait to get closer and take a look.

Upon entering, it looks cool and empty. There is a chain hanging from the top, suspended downward. It is obvious that the chain is connected to the church bell.

The church premises were very quiet and lonely; not a single soul was present at the time I was touring around.
