Looking for birds to photograph, I came across this dove resting on the bench in the forest clearing. Immersed in her thoughts, she looks at me without startling. Apparently she's already used to hunters like me. She simply breaks her calm moment, looking at me passively but defiantly, as if asking "What are you doing?", even though she knows the answer. She sits on top of the bench. Smiles. She knows what I'm looking for. She stays there for a while.
No more photos, I just sit on the grass and watch her. You have to love the wild swan, as a Cuban poet said. You have to love the way she ignores that others exist. I'm just passing through, my trail this afternoon will only last a few minutes.
When the sun is setting, she takes off in her low flight following the forest path and leaves.

Buscando aves para fotografiar me topo con esta paloma descansando en el banco del claro del bosque. Sumergida en sus pensamientos, me mira sin sobresaltarse. Al parecer ya está acostumbrada a los cazadores como yo. Ella simplemente rompe su momento calmo, me mira pasiva pero desafiante, como preguntando "Qué haces?", aunque sabe la respuesta. Se acomoda en la parte superior del banco. Sonríe. Sabe lo que busco. Se queda un rato ahí.
Ya no más fotos, simplemente me siento en el pasto a observarla. Hay que amar al cisne salvaje, como dijo un poeta cubano. Hay que amar la manera en que ignora que los demás existen. Yo sólo estoy de paso, mi rastro por esta tarde será de unos minutos nada más.
Cuando va cayendo el sol, ella sale en su bajo vuelo siguiendo el sendero del bosque y se marcha.
