Today we celebrate the bright holiday of Easter. I am not convinced sure if this is the best place for my recipe post, but why not? Minimalism is a big effect with a minimum of tools used.... and my post is just about it. Hope you appreciate it.

Also, yesterday we were doing preparations: my wife baked a huge baking sheet of Easter cakes, and our babygirl helped to decorate them. Those cake are indispensable part of the Easter celebration; and another part is eggs, which are a symbol of the soul. We all took part in painting Easter eggs, our creations are certainly not as creative as the Faberge Eggs jewelry, but still we have something to brag about. In this post, I will share our technology.

If you enjoy the result, maybe you will find useful the technology, as well. It is very simple!

We will need: an enamel pan (which is not a pity to get a little dirty with paint), water, a little time, non-crooked hands, and threads. The most important thing is the threads, which is important: not any will do, but only those that are able to "shed".

We have a large stock of "old editions", among which we have found in previous years those that are suitable ... that is, they molt in hot water, giving their color to the eggs.

Obviously, the threads can be combined in color, combining 2 or even 3 colors ... You need to wind the threads so that they stick and hold onto the egg, so that they hold on to each other. Before winding, I recommend to moisten the egg a bit with water - this will greatly simplify the winding process.

As you can see in this photo, here winding is done with two threads of different colors at once, in order to obtain more colorfulness and variety of colors.

Ok, the next step: carefully, trying not to beat them, put the eggs into a saucepan, and pour cold water on top, put on gas and heat for 15-20 minutes (boil 5-10 minutes more than you usually do for boiled eggs).

Depending on the type of thread you have and the degree to which it is dyed/willingness to release its dye to the eggs at a hot temperature... you may get different results. By the way, you can not rely solely on threads, and add some other dye to boiling water, preferably not very intense. (For example, you can add a couple of tablespoons of onion peel). On the photo above is what we got (a few tablespoons of onion were added this time).

By the way, did you know that onion peel is an excellent dye for eggs? It allows you to get extremely "whimsical" and natural-looking "marble" textures, something like the one in the photo above. (But thats a side-step).

Ok, back to our eggs. After we cooled them down in cold water, we took them out. Now we need to free them from the threads. We won't need these used threads any more - except maybe for design purposes?... I admit they look nice, like tangled seaweed on the shore... or the wig of a lost forest elf. )))

The photo above clearly shows that the eggshell dyed differently from different threads: the green threads gave their color, providing an intense azure color, and the red threads gave a slightly pinkish tint, but at the same time covered the shell from staining with onion peel. In general, "isolation" of custom-made fragments from staining is also an excellent, proven way of applying images (in printing, this method is called "reversing").

I could add many more pictures to the post... in total I took 200 captures during that session. In fact, it was such a pleasant meditative pastime that I couldn't stop.
