The past couple of weeks of glorious sunshine meant it was time to unpack summer clothing and adjust my self-care routine. I love warmer months, as my muscles and nerves are more receptive to heat than cold. However, one thing I try to be consistent with is full skin protection against the harsh sun rays. Staying hydrated and taking steps to retain moisture, and nourishing my body are daily habits that I enjoy. Doing self-care helps to uplift my mood, simply because looking good helps me to feel good.

Would I consider my self-care routine, minimalist?

No, not in all aspects.

Less is more, in terms of makeup, but not necessarily the same with skincare.
Having a good skincare regime is important, as I prefer a natural glow and try to leave camouflage to clothing only. So I maintain a rigid, but doable skincare routine, as economically as possible.

Women who look like me, need to take extra steps to absorb vitamin D, so my doctor recommends that I spend 10 to 30 minutes daily, outdoors in the sunshine.
Cracks and flaky skin can make us look like prunes when our bodies lack moisture. So it is imperative to maximize our intake of fluid, preferably water, to stay hydrated.

I do a full-body routine of moisturising, which starts from my hair root to ends, to between my toes, and end at the bottom of my feet.

Nourishing from the inside out is important

I do pass a lot of fluid, so I drink many glasses of water throughout the day to help to replenish the liquids in my body. Drinking several glasses of water does not only help to keep me hydrated, but it doubles up in helping to flush and detox toxins from my body.

Adding a slice of lemon or some freshly squeezed lemon is refreshing.

I try to stay away from sweets or have them in moderation, but nourishing the body with fruit and nuts helps.

I love fruit and veggies and try to have a basic and balanced diet which includes some citrus. Oranges do the trick and are easy to acquire all year round.

Recycling and DIY products and procedures are advantageous for saving money and doing self-care in the comfort of the home.

So, I dry my coffee pods in the sun and empty the ground coffee to make my body scrub.

There's nothing nicer than caressing my body when it's moist and smooth, and a great way for me to achieve smoothness is by applying body scrubs which help to remove dead skin from my body.

They say black don't fucking crack, but I think it's a big misconception that women who look like me do not need to protect their skin from the sun.
Sunscreen and protection are vital for my skin, and hair which tends to be on the porous side.

This oil works like a miracle for strengthening and nourishing my hair, and it helps to eliminate dry flaky scalp.

It is never too early to start caring for ourselves, and it's also better late than none at all.

We are not getting any younger, and the force of gravity is strong; So, my advice to women, particularly us in the silver age, is to not despair, but think of our bodies as a car engine, that runs and performs better when it's properly lubricated with oil.

Let's stay hydrated, regardless of the season.

I love this!!! I agree, it's vital to take good care of our skin. I always struggle with finding a good sunprotection, though, as I don't want a bunch of crazy chemicals on my skin. That scalp oil looks amazing, will definitely be looking for that or something similar. I have thin hair anyways and recovering years fo dyeing it, so I'm extra careful in summers.

Was at a market this past weekend and found a lovely natural skin oil blend which is ultra-mousturizing, so very happy about that.

Does lemony water have any particular benefits or is it more for personal enjoyment?

I've been thinking about natural sun protection too because I hate all those chemicals. Aloe Vera is really for after the sun, but I think it's good for protection too. I like using oils, but be careful because oild help you to tan naturally (give you that honey colour 😁).

I found this post that I did a few years ago on Hive. I use to drink this all the time to stay hydrated in the Philippines. Lemon, Cucumber, and Kiwi... with lots of health benefits.

My hair is naturally fragile, and I do colour and mess it up sometimes. However, rosemary is great for strengthening and growth. I honestly think that oil suits coarser hair kinds like mine, for leaving in. However, it could be a great treatment for your hair as a conditioner under a cap and then washing it out.
I desperately want to apply a colour to my hair, but I think that if I should do it now, I'll end up with a bald head, looking like a dried coconut. 🤣

I read somewhere carrotseed oil has a higher SPF level than coconut...though I've yet to try it myself. :)
I've been having a go at natural hair-coloring brands ( plant-based stuff) but it doesn't seem to do much other than a maybe tint in that direction.
Thanks for that link! Hope you're having a great week!

Yes, I've been having a lovely week. It's overcast this morning, but it might brighten up.

Plant-based hair colouring doesn't take effect on my hair. They probably make it darker. For your hair, rinsing it with a camomile infusion might help the colour, and rosemary-infused water would strengthen it and help to bring out the best of your natural hair colour.

I'll look into carrotseed oil and see what they say about it:))

Thanks so much for the tips! I can't wait to try them out! I'm glad you're having a good time!

Staying hydrated is key. Water with lemon is delicious in the summer. Cucumber can be good too especially with mint in it.

I've recently heard that rosemary is good for hair. Never tried it myself yet though

I like the mint idea.👍
I do this one sometimes: lemon, cucumber, and kiwi. I must have written a post on it before:) This photo i grabbed from my other social media.

I've never tried kiwi. That could be good

Never had Kiwi in water, or never ate it at all?

Just in water. I've eaten it lol

OK😆 I thought so:)

Water! Water! I have to remind myself of this. Though I try to keep a bottle of water on my desk to remind me, I still think I consume way less than I should.
Coffee scrub feels nice, but I am afraid to clog the drain with coffee grounds. What do you do to avoid drainage clogs?

 last year

It's easy to forget to drink water, you know. Maybe set an alarm throughout the day to remind you.
Yes, coffee can be a pain to wash away. I think it's best to put on a swimsuit and do it outside if you have the privacy. Coffee grounds are good as a fertiliser, so it would help the environment. I'm not sure if it clogs the drain, or if it's just a real pain to wash and tidy the shower after 😆

I just soak myself to water haha. If it is a hot weather we still drink coffee here in the PH.

Just recently I noticed that we are drinking lots of water due to the heat that we are experiencing. Few days ago we reach out to the local water refilling station to get our stock and now we have close to none already.

Let's stay hydrated, regardless of the season.

There's a song in our place. Drink Your Water Bhie

Haha! Funny song!
When I lived in Moalboal, I replenished my drinking water the most on the compound. I changed my 5KG water bottle daily sometimes. I also had a tricycle and carried two water bottles in the back of this. I had to ride up a steep hill, so I needed to rehydrate a lot.😆

Haha! Funny song!

I know right! The beats are okay and the lyrics just keeps on repeating drink your water bhie.

5KG water bottle daily sometimes.

Jeez! This one's heavy in one go! I have a 1 litter bottle here refilled every two to three hours a day depending on the situation.

Skincare and hydration is really important for me too. Indeed we're getting older and I can feel it everytime I forget to drink enough water and feel tired doing my skincare. My skin gets so ugly and dry.

Yell me about it. I do not drink enough water during the winter months... and I started to look like a fish with scales. It's important to drink water because it does make a big difference to the health of our skin and our self esteem:)

Dear @millycf1976 here in Cumaná Sucre state-Venezuela consume water, it is at all times, because they are getting hot never perceived, in other years ago, in any case, drinking water is for me one of the best foods, especially in my practices body warming and yoga. Water is life, we must consume it consistently. As for coffee, I only consume a quarter of a small cup in the afternoon. Likewise, lemonade is highly recommended to cleanse the body.
I sincerely hope that your publication is highly valued positively. successes

Thanks for your lovely comment @omarrojas
Yes, it is important to drink a lot especially when doing activities such as yoga, which aids the natural detox process. In hot climates like Venezuela, and other tropical regions where humidity is high, it's really important to drink water and keep the natural salts in our bodies up to par:)

I also wanted to express to you that for you, so pretty ladies, the use of coconut oil for hair and face is very important, even the action of the sun's rays does not prevent it from being used during the day, I have verified that with my wife who uses it daily and keeps her hair loose and her face free of impurities. Well, dear @millycf1976 , they are experiential experiences, likewise, we must always have a good natural digestive, for this I recommend drinking papaya or papaya juice, or eating the fruit directly, it is very healthy, especially for those who suffer from constipation, it is good for lose weight and maintain beautiful skin. I wish you all the good things in life, you are appreciated from Venezuela. successes.

Yes, I do use a lot of coconut oil, especially when I'm in the tropics. I like good quality cold pressed Coconut oil that I can also drink a tablespoon daily.
Papaya is wonderful, but it's hard to find it in the UK... Life in tropical places is better.

I appreciate all these tips very much, and I'll refer back to them if ever I go back to living in a country where I can get fresh, tasty fruit easily:)
