Groove Brothers is one of the top two Wes Montgomery albums in my personal opinion (Full House being the other one ). Wes is playing with his brothers Buddy Montgomery on vibes and piano (Buddy is on piano for the first five tracks and vibes on the last eight) and Monk Montgomery, the innovative electric bassist, sticks to acoustic bass throughout here. On drums we have Lawrence Marable (tracks 1-5) Paul Humphrey (tracks 6-13). The first cut is D-Natural Blues (Monterey Blues) which is a great relaxed jazz blues showcasing the fantastic guitar and groove of Wes Montgomery. Jingles is another fine interesting composition by Wes. Jeannine is by Duke Pearson and is given a wonderful treatment by the brothers. Beaux Arts is by Buddy and is a very interesting composition with a complex chord progression and wonderful ensemble stops and rhythmic figures. Wes is in high gear on this one. Every track is well played and on the highest level. You won't be disappointed and will see why Wes is considered a jazz guitar god.
