Dexter Gordon - Go

in Music3 years ago

Go is an album by tenor sax man Dexter Gordon made in 1962. He is joined by Sonny Clark – piano,
Butch Warren – bass, and Billy Higginson drums. This is a studio album that has all the ambience of a live club date. The first song, Cheese Cake, was composed by Gordon. It's a great tune in the post bop vein. The next Tune, I Guess I'll Hang My Tears out to Dry, by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn is a beautiful ballad that has become a standard. It is played with great sensitivity by the whole band. Love for Sale, by Cole Porter, is given a superb treatment with a very nice drum part by Billy Higgins. I have a number of Dexter's albums. This is my favorite. The last link will give you access to the full album though the songs are in reverse order of the original.

Without doubt, Gordon's best album along with Our Man in Paris (1963). Superb choice by a superb musician who translated the way of playing tenor sax to the bebop idiom. It's also noteworthy his starring role on the film 'Round Midnight (1986) by French director Bertrand Tavernier.

Yes he was good in the movie.
