Study in Brown is an album from 1955 by virtuoso trumpeter Clifford Brown and master drummer Max Roach. The great Harold Land joins them on tenor sax and contributes the minor key mysterious tune Lands's End to the effort. Richie Powell on piano and George Morrow on bass round out the group. Sandu, written by Brown, is a great swinging jazz blues that has become a standard. The album starts with the Ray Noble standard Cherokee done in a stunning fashion at a brisk tempo. Take the A train is also covered. George's Dilemma is slightly reminiscent of Night in Tunisia but stands on its own as a very interesting tune. The entire album is excellent. They have another album together called Brown and Roach Incorporated that you may also enjoy.

Excellent album! This group was the first one pioneering hard bop at a time when rhythm and blues was in vogue, incorporating some of its elements, and clearly diverging from the decaying bebop. Have a great day! 😀
Glad you like it. Have a great weekend!😎
