Hello, music lovers! π΅
On #threetunestuesday, I reflect on the music I listened to growing up and the music I had access to. And when something reminds me of moments from my youth, I try to relive those memories through music.
Today, I remember a guitarist who passed away yesterday. He wasn't on my list of favorites, but I often listened to him because he was (and still is) very popular with my sister. Many times when I visited her, he was on the playlist.

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post. It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.
Chris Rea was a British singer and guitarist from Middlesbrough, UK. He began his musical career in 1973, released 25 studio albums, had several hits on the music charts, was nominated for Brit Awards and Grammys, and sold over 40 million records.
He was better known as a singer and pop songs writer, although in my opinion, he was one of the most underrated slide guitarists. Guitar experts often refer to him as a 'true player's player' because of his exceptionally melodic, soulful, and expressive playing, which combined blues roots with rock elements. He himself has said many times that his great role model was Joe Walsh.
Here are some of his songs
Chris Rea - Fool (If You Think It's Over)
The song is from his first album, Whatever Happened to Benny Santini?, released in 1978. It was also released as a single. It didn't receive much attention in the United Kingdom upon its release, but it earned him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1979 on the American charts. And then it became popular in the UK as well.
Chris Rea - On The Beach
The song is from the 1986 album of the same name. It is a relaxed, melancholic ballad with elements of blues, rock, and pop, typical of him. Rough vocals, soft synths, and melodic slide guitar. As he says, he got his inspiration "on the beaches of the island of Formentera (near Ibiza), where he fell in love with his wife."
A big summer hit.
Chris Rea - Road To Hell
Road To Hell is from his tenth album of the same name, released in 1989. It is considered one of his greatest hits, both musically and commercially. Blues rock in his style, and a story about how society is turning into hell through greed and alienation.
As a bonus, another song that has become one of the classic Christmas songs returns to the charts every year at this time. The recording was made in 2000 on National Lottery Stars.
Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas
R.I.P. Chris Rea
That's all for today, thank you for your attention.
This is my 82nd post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started.
I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.

Yeah, more and more exceptional guitarists are in eternity.
Wow... I didn't know he had passed away. I remember listening to his bluesy songs more than 10 years ago.
Thank you for this well-deserved tribute!
