Too back freedom for her was a little too much to handle and it cost her her life.
Maybe so. I am not precisely acquainted how did it happen. But it may be a different story too. Imagine: a person understands that ideals are illusory, the real world, despite all the efforts given, does not change, you stay in this rat race maze endlessly... and you fence yourself off from this shit - with drugs and alcohol. You move yourself to another world, better than this one. That may be the reasons and details of some departures - by means of drugs and alcohol, but due to different reasons. I see it rather like that.

I think you're right about her alcoholism. For people who are really sensitive--and artists often fall in that group--escape is necessary. So many went down that path...
