Humour and music? Are they a good combination? They can work well together, at least that's what the composer Camille Saint-Saëns thought. There is one humorous musical suite that he composed, with a funny title: The Carnival of the Animals. And not just the title is funny, the music too. It has 14 movements, written for two pianos and chamber ensemble and it was designed to be performed for a private performance. He was thought of as a serious composer in his lifetime, so not to damage this reputation, he prohibited the performance in public of this suite. But, once he left this world, the following year the work was published and was a great success. It happened in 1922, so in just one year it will be the centenary of this work. One hundred years that mankind can listen to this great music.
There was only one movement from this suite he allowed to be performed during his lifetime. Movement number 13, The Swan. He considered it serious enough. The main melody is written for cello, a beautiful slow-flowing tune combined with sixteenths broken chords in the piano. Here, in this video that you have the exclusive opportunity to listen to, I play it in duo with my niece on one piano.

La historía es curiosa, sí, jejeje, el señor compositor no quería que la obra se interprete en público, raro no? Bueno, creo que era tímido o no estaba segurno como se va a aceptar la obra. Pero, es una joya, tiene catorce movimientos representando diferentes animales. Es interesante. Mi sobrina, la que posee aquellos brazos que tocan conmigo, tiene las partituras de 4 manos y este verano pasabamos las tardes tocando juntas. En breve se acaban mis vacaciones y hasta el año que viene no tandré la oportunidad tocar con ella. Sí, ¿Verdad? Ciertamente es raro... "Música que no debe ser escuchada..." ¿Quizás era algo sobre "Exclusividad" tal vez? Quería tocar la pieza solo en las presentaciones para dar un aire de frescura y singularidad. Lo que representa la pieza musical es algo muy bonito.
Y ya me estoy imaginando lo mucho que extrañarás las vacaciones y también, esos ratos con tu sobrina; ojalá tengan la oportunidad de compartir muchos, muchos momentos juntas en un futuro próximo.
Sí, las vacaciones pronto se me acaban y regreso a España. El futuro próximo no es tan cerca, pero guardaré cada momento que hemos pasado juntas :)
Y como también hemos grabado varias cosas tocando juntas, iré escuchandonos jejeje, quizás compartir alguna cosa más :D

Those arpeggios are so nice, indeed, I loved playing them, while my niece had the main melody part. We had a lot of fun playing many classical pieces together this summer, it was our daily activity to have fun making music in those 4 hands set-ups (well, sometimes 6 hands, when we were three hehe)
According to my perception, this piece has more majesty and beauty than fun and little seriousness hahahahaha. It is so beautiful that it makes me want to cry. 😍😭

Mis sobrinas (las dos que tengo) tocan el piano desde pequeñas, yo las enseñé los primeros pasos... ahora están en la universidad, una estudia musicología y matemáticas y la otra piano.
🙂 He dejado de creer en las coincidencias hace ya mucho tiempo. Nuestra vida es como una perfecta y grandiosa pieza musical, en la que todo cobra sentido, todo se conecta, más tarde o más temprano.

Muchas gracias por escucharme y por tu comentario. Me alegro de verdad que esta pieza ha sido tan bien aceptada y ha traído momentos bonitos y de relajación. La verdad que hemos disfrutado muchas tardes tocando juntas con mi sobrina, y entre otras piazes esta también la preparamos.
