An Eclectic Mix of Music - Three Tune Tuesday

in Musiclast year (edited)

It's Tuesday, which means it's #threetunetuesday which is an initiative started by @ablaze that encourages us to throw out some tunes here on Hive to discuss and share with the rest of the community.

Kris Kristofferson - The Law Is For The Protection of The People

I'd never heard of him before a couple of years ago, and after hearing this song I went on a little bit of a binge. I like his stuff, but this one always sticks in my mind and recently popped back up on my radar.

I love a song that tells a story, and this one tells a great one in my opinion, and it's cleverly written in a way, that each of the people the law protects the public from gets worse.

Started out with a drunk, then a hippy, and then a prophet. I think the lyrics and music of the song blend perfectly, and while on the surface it sounds like a happy song, beneath the surface, the lyrics discuss some pretty dystopian ideas, that criticize our ideas of law and order, as well as raising the question, "Who deserves incarceration and who are we to judge."

Irony of It All - The Streets

Now, I use to love smoking joints, I liked weed, but my favorite was hash, I used to love pollen, loved the buzz off it, and the smell too.

I knocked it on the head back in 2020, and since then I've had a few cheeky one-skinners, or pinners. When I say a few, I literally mean a few in the last couple of years. I went from smoking every day, to not smoking anything overnight. I had a bar sitting in my drawer for months and finally decided to just give it away to a few mates who still smoked. Having the crutch of being able to have one if I needed it was important for those first couple of months, but then got to the point where I just didn't need it.

The benefits of not smoking were amazing; within a couple of months, I'd saved up a hell of a lot of money and bought a beefy pc with some of the savings which has been great, and since then I've given it a fair few upgrades which have made editing, streaming and content creation in general, a breeze.

Regardless of not smoking anymore, I'm still an advocate of it and the fact that so many other substances are legal - which causes a hell of a lot more harm - is a bit mad to me.

This song talks about the irony of society's standards when it comes to smoking some green and going out on the beer. If I'm not mistaken, weed has been decriminalized here in Ireland, but you can still be punished for possessing it, I think.

I'll say, there are tons of benefits to using the plant itself, paper, clothing, you name it, hemp can be used in a lot of ways. But, smoking it every day is harmful as hell, especially to the mind. Everything in moderation, as they say. Stoners have a way of justifying daily consumption, I was guilty of it too. I was highly functioning, even at that though, in ways I lacked motivation. While it didn't disrupt my life completely, I do think it slowed me down.

Stupid Questions - New Model Army

My band got on the bill for Rebellion this year, which I haven't had a chance to announce yet, but I figured this would be as good a time as any to mention it.

We were supposed to be playing Rebellion Festival, which is the biggest punk festival in Europe and takes place in Black Pool every August over the bank holiday weekend. We were on the bill in 2020, but sure enough, Covid put an end to that, and because we didn't re-apply in 2022 when it came back, we never got it. But, here we are in 2023 and we'll finally be doing it!

There are a bunch of bands I'm looking forward to seeing, New Model Army is one of them. I've never seen them before, but I've always wanted to, they have tons of really good songs, but this one here is one of my favourites.

Descendants are another band I can't wait to see, who are on the line-up this year, also, Dayglo Abortions, who I've liked for a long time. It is going to be amazing and the line up is great, I can imagine it being a pretty busy weekend, but the chance to see so many bands in one place is great.

For playing, we get AAA passes for the entire weekend, as well as free food and drink for the night we're playing.

Me? I'll do just about anything for free food and drink haha

Love New Model Army, I never really got into their newer stuff but that's my favourite album of their's as well so hopefully they'll play a load of the old classics

Great to hear you're playing the festival. That will be a blast. You've really gone for variety on this post.

!BEER

Hahaha, I was listening to some music earlier and the vibe was bouncing around pretty rapidly.

I'm delighted man, it'll be a real buzz! I'm thinking of doing some Gonzo journalism posts about the weekend when it comes.

Yay! 🤗

I love a song that tells a story

Yes! Old Billy Joel was really good for this, as was Springsteen. I've not really ever listened to too much Kristofferson, but this one was definitely a fun listen.

Fantastic! I'm sure you'll play wonderfully and have a great time!

I will have to go down a little Kris Kristofferson rabbit hole myself, based on that tune, it's very good.

Ah The Streets, funny I have not listened to Mike in ages and only yesterday another #ttt post had 3 of his tunes, and now here you are with one too, good synchronicity..

Interesting perspective, especially given that you travelled the road yourself, I think you are right, there are pros and cons, but smoking every day is addiction territory really regardless of what it is, good on yiu for knocking it on the head and you are ten times more productive now I am sure, which is cool too and you can still have the odd spliff and will get a way better buzz of it too as you are not so used to it anymore.

Stupid Questions - New Model Army --- Nice one man, it will be cool to see these boys at the festival and I reckon there will be a few joints smoked for the occasion too! Ha ha, and why not, all about moderation... Massive congrats to you and the boys on getting a slot, nice one.
