I have been practicing this for some years, and it is something that brings results and results in the medium term, it is always something that I recommend and try to promote this practice with my friends.
The good thing about doing this activity is that it not only helps you develop your musical ear, but we can also put into practice music transcription or writing and that will benefit us a lot when reading sheet music.
Personally, when I decide to study a solo, I usually listen to the melodies many times, analyze the intervals and after having memorized, I sit down with the bass and I try little by little.
In the world of jazz there are many saxophone solos that are extremely fast and are difficult to grasp audibly, nowadays there are many programs that allow you to reduce the speed and this makes studying much easier because it allows us to listen to the melody much slower in question.
