My Mom's Choir

Happy start to the week! The last days of the year are here, and there's a lot of nostalgia in every corner, but also wonderful memories to share that encourage me to continue on the musical path I've chosen for my life. In today's video, you can see a sample of the most recent performance by the choir my mother directs. The best part is that it was a special concert in Caracas, the city where I live, so I didn't have to make much of an effort to enjoy their work, which I loved. I always mention here that there's a difference between the choir I sing in, where everything has to be internationally focused, and a choir from a family, private company, or church, where there's freedom of repertoire, image, and even sound, what I call "soul"...

¡Feliz inicio de semana!. Últimos días del año y mucha nostalgia en cualquier rincón, pero con gratos recuerdos que compartir y que animan a seguir el camino musical que elegí para mi vida. En el video de hoy pueden apreciar una muestra de lo que fue la más reciente presentación de la coral que dirige mi mamá, y lo mejor es que fue un concierto especial en Caracas, la ciudad donde vivo, así que no tuve que hacer mucho esfuerzo para disfrutar del trabajo que están realizando, el cual amé, y es que siempre comento aquí que hay una diferencia entre la agrupación coral donde canto donde todo tiene que ser de proyección internacional y una coral de alguna familia, empresa privada o iglesia, donde hay libertad de repertorio, imagen y hasta sonido, lo que yo traduzco como "alma"...

The choir is called Luis Vaz de Camoes. It belongs to a prominent private institution in Aragua State, my birthplace and where my family lives. For many years, it was directed by my father, @armandolnrs, but after his passing, my mother, @zorajr, took over and is doing a wonderful job. In fact, that day I discovered that my brother, @alinares, also sings with the baritones, so the only one missing was me to have the whole family there, but as you know, I'm in another city. This was a Christmas concert with a beautiful repertoire, and as you can see in the video above, even the audience gets caught up in the joy of these songs. By the way, the music in the video is called "Aguinaldo Indígena," and people in the audience participate by making animal sounds.

La coral se llama Luis Vaz de Camoes, es de una importante institución privada en el Estado Aragua, mi lugar de nacimiento y donde se encuentra mi familia, y por muchos años fue dirigida por mi papá @armandolnrs, pero después de su partida, mi mamá @zorajr asumió la dirección de la misma y lo está haciendo de maravilla; de hecho ese día descubrí que mi hermano @alinares también canta con los barítonos, así que solo falto yo ahí para que esté toda la familia, pero ya saben que estoy en otra ciudad. Este fue un concierto navideño, con un repertorio muy hermoso, y como pueden apreciar en el video de arriba, hasta el público asistente se hace se contagia con la alegría de estas canciones. Por cierto, la música del video se llama Aguinaldo Indígena, y las personas del público participan haciendo sonidos de animales.

Today I visited the National Art Gallery in Caracas for the first time, so I'll share more about its beauty, art, and architecture later. But in the meantime, and in honor of the holiday season, I wanted to share this joyful music and my impressions of the wonderful work done by this and other choirs that performed that day. These people love to sing, and some of them have studied music before, while others are just starting out. After work, they faithfully gather to rehearse and prepare songs, not for a salary, but out of passion. They transmit that passion in their live performances, where everyone contributes their talent and upholds the group's reputation. They were also performing in another city, and from personal experience, I can confirm that you always experience an extra dose of musical adrenaline when you sing in a new place. I'm proud to have finally witnessed this work and to see that music continues to brighten my mom's days. Also, somehow, when the three of us get together and make music, you can always feel my dad's presence with us ❤️

Este día visité por primera vez la Galería Nacional de Arte en Caracas, así que ya les compartiré un poco más de la belleza, el arte y la arquitectura de este lugar, pero mientras tanto y con motivo de la temporada navideña les quería compartir esta música alegre y mis impresiones del gran trabajo que hizo esta y otras corales que asistieron ese día. Estas personas aman cantar y algunos de ellos estudiaron música alguna vez y otros a penas están comenzando. Son personas que luego de salir de sus trabajos se reúnen fielmente a ensayar y preparara canciones, no por un sueldo, sino por pasión, y esa pasión la transmiten en sus presentaciones en vivo donde todos aportan un poco de su talento y mantienen en alto el nombre de la agrupación, además, estaban cantando en otra ciudad, y por experiencia propia les confirmo que uno siempre tiene un peldaño más de adrenalina musical cuando canta en otra parte. Estoy orgulloso de haber presenciado este trabajo al fin y ver que la música sigue alegrando los días de mi mamá, además, de alguna manera cuando nos juntamos los tres y estamos haciendo música siempre se siente la presencia de mi papá con nosotros ❤️
