Le Nozze di Figaro | Opera

Happy start to the week! Things are still very tense here in Venezuela, but today I prefer to write and remember a wonderful moment I experienced in December. At our national headquarters, we staged the opera The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Believe it or not, it was the first time we'd ever done a production like this, and we didn't even get to sing in the choir. This time, the Italian maestros worked exclusively with young soloists, all students of opera singing, and what has become our competition within our own institution 😅 our colleagues from the Ángel Sauce Youth Choir, although, between you and me, we're practically the same people. I had the pleasure of attending as an audience member with my wife and friends and supporting our fellow choir members.

¡Feliz inicio de semana!. Por aquí en Venezuela las cosas siguen muy tensas, pero hoy prefiero escribir y recordar un buen momento que viví en Diciembre. En nuestra sede nacional se llevó a cabo la Opera Bodas de Fígaro del compositor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Aunque no me crean, es la primera vez que se hace un montaje escénico como este y no nos tocó cantar en el coro. En esta oportunidad, los maestros italianos trabajaron solo con jóvenes solistas estudiantes de canto lírico, y lo que se ha convertido en nuestra competencia dentro de nuestra misma casa 😅 nuestros colegas de la Joven Coral Ángel Sauce, aunque aquí entre nos, somos la misma gente. Tuve el placer de asistir como público junto a mi esposa y mis amigos y apoyar a nuestros colegas de la coral.

I attended all three performances, with three different casts, and as always, I left very proud of Venezuelan talent. The orchestra had a professional sound, the singers gave a fantastic vocal performance, and the young choir made its debut as a small opera chorus. Everything was wonderful. The only downside is that our facilities don't lend themselves well to creating an atmosphere for stage design, since our concert hall isn't equipped for opera productions, but we always manage to offer the public a performance of international quality.

Yo fui a las tres funciones, con tres elencos diferentes y como siempre salí muy orgulloso del talento venezolano. La orquesta con sonido profesional, los cantantes haciendo un gran trabajo vocal y el estreno de la joven coral como un pequeño coro de ópera. Todo fue maravilloso. Lo único malo es que nuestras instalaciones no ayudan a crear una atmósfera respecto a escenografía, ya que nuestra sala de conciertos no es para hacer montajes de ópera, pero siempre logramos la manera de ofrecer un trabajo de calidad internacional al público.

In the video above, I'm sharing short clips from the first day of the opera, but in the photos, I'm sharing a bit of everything I loved about the three performances. It's worth noting that this production took place during a critical time, when we didn't even know if the guest musicians would be able to return to Italy, given the flight restrictions in Venezuela and the threat of the attacks that ultimately occurred a few days ago. Being a musician is already quite challenging (financially speaking), but to handle so much pressure and sing as if nothing were wrong to create an atmosphere for the audience is something that makes me admire my colleagues even more. I only hope that music will never be lacking, and that it will continue to be a source for connecting with our inner peace and healing our souls 🙏

En el video de arriba les comparto pequeños fragmentos de lo que fue el primer día de la ópera, pero en las fotografías les comparto un poco de todo lo que me gustó durante las tres funciones. Cabe destacar que este montaje se llevó a cabo en un momento crítico, cuando ni siquiera sabíamos si los maestros invitados podrían regresar a Italia, ya que había restricción de vuelos en Venezuela y además la amenaza de los ataques que finalmente ocurrieron hace unos días. Ya ser músico es bastante complicado (monetariamente hablando), pero sumar tanta tensión y cantar como si nada estuviera pasando para crear una atmósfera para el publico es algo que me hace admirar cada vez más a mis colegas... Solo deseo que no nos falte la música, y siga siendo fuente para conectar con nuestra paz interior y la sanación de nuestras almas 🙏

The opera The Marriage of Figaro took place on December 12, 13, and 14 at the National Center for Social Action through Music in Caracas. The three casts were conducted by Maestro Christian Vásquez, with the participation of young soloists from the Simón Bolívar National Choir, the Ángel Sauce Choir, and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. Marco Gandini and Maximiliano Bullo were in charge of the stage and vocal direction. Pure talent—you can't go wrong here! Long live Venezuelan talent! ❤️

La Opera Bodas de Fígaro se llevó a cabo los días 12, 13 y 14 de Diciembre en el Centro Nacional de Acción Social por la Música en la ciudad de Caracas. Los tres elencos fueron dirigidos por el Maestro Christian Vásquez, con la participación de jóvenes solistas de la Coral Nacional Simón Bolívar, la Coral Ángel Sauce y la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar. Los encargados del montaje escénico y vocal fueron los maestros Marco Gandini y Maximiliano Bullo. Puro talento, no hay manera de errar aquí. ¡Que viva el talento venezolano! ❤️
