So basically I play this song a lot.
It is a traditional Slovak folk song, with sentimental lyrics as you can hear by the music, even if you don't know Slovak.
What is specific for this song that it is recorded in the South Serbia, on "Stara planina" ( mountain near the Bulgarian border.
This summer there was a fight that local ecologists started in Rakita ( small village ).
The fight started when a big company wanted to make mini hydroelectric power plant that would result in cutting off a river that flows through that small village.
To a big company that river didn't mean that much, nor the power they would harvest from it, but to the people of Rakita that water meant life. River that flows through there is drinkable not only for animals but for people too.
There was a call to arms so to speak, and me and my friends traveled a good distance to help and destroy the pipe they put there.
Of course I am romanticizing this whole story. There was no fight, the pipe we managed to break didn't mean much and it was fixed anyway, but the experience of the whole situation was quite powerful.
People from all around Serbia sat together by the fire, drank, shared everything they had and told stories.
My story was that I was a Slovak who lives in Serbia, I've been offered many times to go to Slovakia and live a better life there, but I stayed for love of my village, love for my culture, and my fellow citizens.
Even though Slovak people are generally very peaceful folk ( me included ), they tend to show bravery in unexpected situations.
This was my act of such. I am aware I didn't do much, but the fight still goes on.
If you read so far, you can now hear the explanation why this song.
I was the "guy with a guitar" around the fire, being born in Serbia I know many Serbian songs, and I sang those, but sometimes people requested that I play something for my heart.
This was the song I always played, and even though they didn't understand the lyrics, everybody expressed their understanding of the sentiment of the song ( which was correct ).
Music has no language.
Thank you.
