Pero hablando en serio, el Noise Rock tiene un espíritu que de vez en cuando, se presenta a sí mismo con una estética "sucia" y se centra en el desorden, en el caos y en texturas que pueden sonar literalmente "sucias". Para los que disfrutamos la música agresiva y atonal, este tipo de canciones son una delicia, por ello, hoy quiero hablar de tres canciones que utilizan los gritos más descarnados, las baterías más pesadas y las guitarras más distorsionadas y ruidosas que pueda encontrar. Así que, acompáñenme a estas profundidades.

Hello, Hivers. Today is Monday and I don't take baths on Mondays (just kidding), so today I want to talk about three very dirty Noise Rock songs to make me one with the grime.

But in all seriousness, Noise Rock has a spirit that from time to time, presents itself with a "dirty" aesthetic and focuses on messiness, chaos and textures that can literally sound "dirty". For those of us who enjoy aggressive, atonal music, these types of songs are a treat, so today, I want to talk about three songs that utilize the starkest screams, the heaviest drums, and the most distorted and loudest guitars you can find. So, join me in these depths.

Comenzamos con el disco que lleva la imagen insignia de este post. No se puede hablar de Noise Rock sin hablar de Swans, una de las bandas más importantes del rock experimental y también una parte importantísima del movimiento neoyorquino del No Wave en los años 80, siendo una de las poquísimas bandas de dicho movimiento que sigue estando activa a día de hoy. Muchos de los discos de esta prolífica banda podrían tener una aparición en esta lista, pero el sonido de la misma ha evolucionado mucho con el tiempo y definitivamente, su sonido más sucio y misantrópico se encuentra en sus primeros discos. Por ello, esta canción de su primer disco "Filth", estrenado en 1983, entra en esta lista. Una canción de 5min de distorsión lenta, con una batería que golpea con fuerza, calmada, pero que cada golpe pesa como un puñetazo en el estómago. Mientras el vocalista grita y gruñe palabras de motivación dignas de un gimnasio. Para aquellos amantes del rock que también les guste mantenerse en forma, esta canción es perfecta para hacer ejercicios, si una canción disonante con un hombre bramando "FLEX YOUR MUSCLES" te sirve de inspiración, claro está.

We start with the album that carries the flagship image of this post. You can't talk about Noise Rock without talking about Swans, one of the most important bands of experimental rock and also a very important part of the New York No Wave movement in the 80's, being one of the very few bands of that movement that is still active today. Many of this prolific band's albums could have an appearance on this list, but their sound has evolved a lot over time and definitely, their dirtiest and most misanthropic sound is found in their early albums. That's why this song from their first album "Filth", released in 1983, makes it into this list. A 5min song of slow distortion, with drums that hit hard, calm, but each hit weighs like a punch in the stomach. While the vocalist screams and growls gym worthy motivational words. For those rock lovers who also like to stay in shape, this song is perfect for working out, if a dissonant song with a man bellowing "FLEX YOUR MUSCLES" inspires you, that is.

Subimos bastante la intensidad con esta enérgica y furiosa canción de uno de los bateristas más prolíficos que conozco, Zach Hill. Miembro de quién sabe cuantas bandas, pero principalmente conocido por ser parte del grupo de hip-hop industrial Death Grips. Por mera naturaleza, Zach Hill siempre ha sido un músico muy prolífico, su participación está presente en más de 20 proyectos y bandas, además de tener una respetable discografía de 6 álbumes. En el caso de esta canción, podría decirse que es la canción más representativa de su penúltimo disco, el cuál también es el más popular, titulado "Face Tat". En el vídeo de esta canción, observamos a una chica cometiendo actos vandálicos, golpeando personas, moviendose furiosamente por las calles y todo filmado de la forma más temblorosa y sucia posible.

A partir de este vídeo, es que se tomó la foto que sería la portada del álbum. Y este vídeo e imagen capturan perfectamente el sonido de la canción. En unos breves 2min, la canción es capaz de encapsular ruido, furia y energía de una forma que se comprime tanto que parece que la canción quiere explotar. La canción suena extremadamente ruidosa, y no solo por la canción como tal, sino porque la ganancia de la canción está por los cielos, haciendo que esta canción sea naturalmente más ruidosa que la mayoría de canciones en general. Golpeando con toda la fuerza y energías naturales de Zach, con una interpretación vocal llena de eco y resonancia, The Sacto Smile es el tipo de canción que causa una furia envuelta de euforia, difícilmente uno puede escuchar esta canción sin querer hacer las cosas que hace la chica del vídeo (aunque no recomendaría hacerlo si ir a la cárcel no te parece un plan divertido).

We turn up the intensity quite a bit with this energetic and furious track from one of the most prolific drummers I know, Zach Hill. A member of who knows how many bands, but mainly known for being part of the industrial hip-hop group Death Grips. By sheer nature, Zach Hill has always been a very prolific musician, his involvement is present in over 20 projects and bands, as well as having a respectable discography of 6 albums. In the case of this song, it could be said that it is the most representative song of his penultimate album, which is also the most popular, entitled "Face Tat". In the video for this song, we see a girl vandalizing, beating people, moving furiously through the streets and all filmed in the most shaky and dirty way possible.

From this video, is that the photo that would be the album cover was taken. And this video and image perfectly capture the sound of the song. In a short 2min, the song is able to encapsulate noise, fury and energy in a way that is so compressed that it sounds like the song wants to explode. The song sounds extremely loud, and not just because of the song as such, but because the gain of the song is through the roof, making this song naturally louder than most songs in general. Hitting with all of Zach's natural strength and energies, with a vocal performance full of echo and resonance, The Sacto Smile is the kind of song that causes a fury wrapped in euphoria, one can hardly listen to this song without wanting to do the things the girl in the video does (although I wouldn't recommend doing so if going to jail doesn't sound like a fun plan to you).

El último contendiente de esta lista, es también el más desconocido de la misma. High Rise fue una banda japonesa sin demasiado éxito, son relativamente desconocidos y en su momento, destacaron por ser una banda experimental que jugó mucho con los sonidos del Noise Rock incorporándolo con aspectos de Jazz y uno que otro experimento sonoro que llevara sus paisajes musicales más allá. Son una banda muy centrada en lo psicodélico e improvisacional, por lo que podemos asumir que de los 14 minutos de duración de esta canción, algo debe ser improvisado. Pop Sicle es probablemente la canción más enérgica de esta lista, una montaña rusa de texturas, ruido, furia, energía, euforia. Una de las canciones más cargadas de adrenalina que jamás he escuchado en estos géneros. El rock en general suele ser visto como un género que intenta ser rudo, agresivo y enérgico, Pop Sicle es el epítome de este concepto, llevado al extremo. Tal vez no sea "sucio", pero da igual cuando esta canción lo reduce todo a cenizas al poner tus audífonos en fuego.

The last contender of this list, is also the most unknown of the list. High Rise was a Japanese band without much success, they are relatively unknown and at the time, they stood out for being an experimental band that played a lot with the sounds of Noise Rock incorporating it with aspects of Jazz and one or another sound experiment that took their musical landscapes further. They are a band very focused on the psychedelic and improvisational, so we can assume that of the 14 minutes of duration of this song, something must be improvised. Pop Sicle is probably the most energetic song on this list, a roller coaster of textures, noise, fury, energy, euphoria. One of the most adrenaline charged songs I've ever heard in these genres. Rock in general is usually seen as a genre that tries to be rough, aggressive and energetic, Pop Sicle is the epitome of this concept, taken to the extreme. It may not be "dirty", but it doesn't matter when this song reduces everything to ashes by setting your headphones on fire.
