Here are my week one hundred and seventy eight recommendations for Three Tune Tuesday

Drum roll please.....

Kendrick Lamar - Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst

As I was saying to you guys in my week 175 post that I appreciate that rap is not for everyone. Bach is not for everybody either. I happen to like both and every other genre in between, other than maybe some Pop music and certain country and western music, but if the music is good, the music is good, and I'll give it a twirl. In fact that's something that I love about Three Tune Tuesdays - I often get introduced to tunes that I'd never happen upon otherwise.

Right then, getting back to Kendrick Lamar, this music is good folks, so even if you don't like rap, listen to the words here and you'll start to appreciate the genius and wordsmanship that Kendrick possesses and sure if you don't like it, coulda, woulda, shoulda. Horses for courses...

I did a series of posts recently about Nick Cave's concept album "Ghosteen". For those who don't know what a concept album is, here is a good definition from wiki:

"A concept album is an album whose tracks hold a larger purpose or meaning collectively than they do individually. This is typically achieved through a single central narrative or theme, which can be instrumental, compositional, or lyrical."

So you don't just skip to your favourite song, which is very difficult for us modern day humans, many of us now have an attention span of about one or two minutes! In fact, I would be willing to bet money that around half of those who started reading this, have already scrolled on. For everyone else..

The second concept album which I'm going to bring you piece by piece over the next few weeks is "good kid m.A.A.d city" Over the past three weeks, I brought you the first nine songs, and now here is the tenth song, Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst.

Here Kendrick brilliantly gives three people's perspective.

Verse one: a story told by Kendrick about Dave's brother who was killed in Swimming Pools. He wanted Kendrick to sing about him and his story. (The positive result of fame)

Verse two: Keisha's sister, from Keisha's song (section 80). She tells the other side of fame, she doesn't want the attention, to be sang about. She think it brings negative perspectives to her and people liked her.

Verse three: Kendrick finally talks. About why he sings of others, to tell stories of life, of the struggle, of hope. He hopes that one day someone will tell his story, and keep the cycle going.

Kendrick Lamar - Real

Onto song eleven we go.

This song finishes with a Voicemail from Kendrick's Mum where she gives him some great advise that he has clearly heeded.

Kendrick Lamar - Compton

This is the final song for this week's post and is all about Kendrick's home city of Compton. I spent a summer in LA back in my University days, during the summer holidays ten of us went to live in Los Angeles and had the time of our lives.

During this summer I worked lots of different jobs and one of them was with a Scottish carpenter called Ciaran, an absolute legend and we had a few jobs in Compton, so I got to see this neighbourhood first hand. I had a pre conception of what it would be like and to be honest, it was not how I thought it would be, albeit I was only there during the day.

Here we go, Compton baby..

Three Tune Tuesday

#but

That's right, it's Tuesday folks and for our merry little band of ladies and lads, that means sharing tunes, good vibes and engagement. As another week disappears in the rearview mirror, we have loads of engagement and tunes flying around on Three Tune Tuesday and sure isn't that bloody fantastic! I hope you're ready to share three tunes from wherever you find yourself on this magical spinning lump of rock that we all call home and sure you might even sing us a tune if we're lucky?

It's a time of the week when lovers of music, tunes and craic bring their blockchain community three of their finest and brightest tunes to share and celebrate, so let's roll on and let the tunes flow free.

This is my 178th week waxing lyrical for Three Tune Tuesday and we are still going strong.

It started off with me just sharing tunes into what seemed like a void, but little by little others joined and now I'm thrilled that we have a little corner of Hive where we come and share our tunes every Tuesday, and long may it continue. I almost stopped posting the songs and thoughts a few times, but I stuck with it and now interestingly it is my favorite thing about Hive. I love music and now I have a network of folks around the world who love music too and we share our tunes and catch up with each others tunes and discuss them each week. We get Pop, Metal, Rock, Gospel, Folk, Jazz, Rap, Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, Reggae, Bippy bappidy Flange Hop. Ok I made that one up, but you get the idea, we are all learning about new artists, bands, back stories and sure isn't it just mighty!

Something that excites me the most is that we even get musicians sharing their covers of famous songs and even their own songs from time to time here on #ThreeTuneTuesday, which is a real favorite of mine, as that takes talent, time and dedication.

We are adding New posters and retaining our core of regulars here on #TTT which is fantastic. Let's keep it growing. Over the years, I have listened to fantastic music shared from like-minded folk from around the globe and interacted with their posts. This has led me to genres I don't know well and to some amazing new bands and artists and has even introduced me to some musical instruments I did not know existed. It also allows me to upvote smaller accounts and find some really interesting people from all over the world, which is heartening.

I hope you enjoy the tunes - be sure to tell me all about it in the comments below and above all else, please enjoy the rest of your Tuesday - smile at a stranger, rub a dog, be a nice human to someone who was not expecting it - peace out.

For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday....

The jist is as follows

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.

HBI contest - win 6HBI

I must read that, thanks for the recommendation

Indeed

Real has to be one of my favorite songs in that album.
It goes way past the lifestyles and teachings, it's a message.

The fact it was places right after sing about me makes its impact even more profound...

Ya Real is heart felt and brilliant in it's teachings

I liked Real and although you had warned that at the end of the piece appeared the voice of the mother, it is exciting to hear it. I feel it is a very special piece. Regards

Ya do you know what, I agree with you, it really is a special piece. Parents love for their children is infinite and no matter what happens they protect them and love them unequivocally.

Thanks for your great and engaging comment as always my friend.

Thanks so much @ablaze! this has become one of my favorite weekly initiatives! 💕

Ahhhh, delighted to hear that @pannavi

It's amazing how many people have got into it now on Hive.

I started listening to Kendrick Lamar some years ago, and honestly, his storytelling in music is just beautiful. He's truly a great artist, I love your picks from him, my favorite should be "REAL"

Yes Real is a powerful song and Kendrick is certainly doing as his Mom advised and giving back to his community and being a good role model
