Spring Sunday: March 12 2023

The kind of Sunday I used to have often - early rising, eating yesterday's leftover lamb chops, catching up with paperwork, vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom, taking the compost down the garden, hanging the washing out, winding up with a huge stock pot of borscht on the stove.

I went out the back with a pair of scissors to snip some bay leaves and was entranced with the evening. I lowered the gas, threw on my coat and went out into the sunset. I didn't stray too far, just a turn around the Botanic Garden and then home for tea.

Just caught the last of this year's crocus. Every year, there are two crocus Sundays with an entrance fee for charity and lots of cakes for sale with big mugs of builders tea. I missed them this year and most of the crocus are laid waste now, looking like a skirmish from Thor Ragnarok had done for them. Just this little blanket.

I liked this view, too.

The Mahonia smelled lovely. I have some in the garden, against all the odds. Such a sweet smell, so reminiscent of spring.

A new comer, some kind of ornamental cherry. Taking over from the tree behind that came adrift from the roots in a storm.
