My Actifit Report Card: March 9 2023

'Odi et amo. Quare id faciam, fortasse requiris.
Nescio, sed fieri sentio et excrucior.'

I hate and then I love you. Why I do this, perhaps you ask.
I do not know not, but I feel that it happens and I am tortured.

Thus begins the poetry of Catullo, a Latin poet, often declaimed in his high school days.
And this is exactly what I feel about my city, Rome.
Stuck in traffic, non-existent public services, inefficient schools, few green spaces.
Not a city, but a monster.
A time-eating and life-eating monster made of sheet metal, dirt, rudeness.
But then in an instant, from a corner, there it is, eternity.
The great beauty that smells of ancient times, of poetry, of history.
And I fall in love again.

(Così comincia la poesia di Catullo, poeta latino, tante volte declamata ai tempi del liceo.
E proprio questo è quello che provo per la mia città, Roma.
Bloccata nel traffico, servizi pubblici inesistenti, scuole inefficienti, pochi spazi verdi.
Non una città, ma un mostro.
Un mostro mangia tempo e mangia vita fatto di lamiera, sporcizia, maleducazione.
Ma poi in un attimo, da un angolo, eccola lì, l'eternità.
La grande bellezza che profuma di antico, di poesia, di storia.
E io mi ri-innamoro.)
