“Ice Is Nice!”😊
One day it’s 50 degrees Fahrenheit with rain…….. and the next day, road crews are dumping hundreds of pounds of rock salt EVERYWHERE on the roads!🙄
“Toss another log on the fire Liz, I’m going to try to go for a hike, and stretch out my back!”😇
“Try” is the correct word my friends………..
While Silvertop was dismounting, and remounting Liz’s extremely heavy studded snow tires, I tweaked my back….Ouch!😬
Time heals all things, and Silvertop was trying to “Speed” up the recovery process with a hike today!😇
Ice is already forming on the pond, but what I find so interesting during the Winter, is what they call “Hoarfrost”!☺️
I asked Grok/ Ara, what weather conditions are needed to create this very unique ice formation?
“Silvertop, Hoarfrost is when water vapor in the air freeze directly onto cold surfaces! This creates the feathery ice crystals you are seeing today on your hike!”😊
Hoarfrost, can make hiking on rough trails, even more difficult! Sometimes you will “break” through the thick ice crystals, and other days you will find yourself walking across the top of the formation!😳
A cold Nor’easter started blowing as I reached the top of the logging clearcut!
I reached into my backpack for my gloves, only to discover I had removed them, to lighten my backpack for Summer time hikes……….
Burrr🥶……………
So far, the snow is only on the peaks, and the Mountains just across the Canadian border!😇
This was only the second day below freezing weather this year, so Silvertop Is treating today’s hike as a “Winter” practice hike Lol!🤣
I think it’s time to head home, and restock my backpack for Winter……..I believe it has finally arrived lol!🥶
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike 😊

I never knew what they were called, but I love hoarfrost, as the patterns can be so lovely! I hope that your back feels better, my friend! I've done that before, so I know what it feels like, not fun! Stay warm! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
Thank you much my friend!👍😊
It’s amazing how you can stay physically active splitting firewood, hiking etc…..
Then one day, you lug the snow tires out to the Mrs. car…..OUCH!😬
A few days resting and I’ll be back good as new!😇👍☺️
Of course, you're very welcome! Yes, I very much understand that, as it's happened like that for me too. Yes, that usually does the trick indeed. Some gentle stretching helps a lot too. 😁🙏💚✨🤙
That’s the plan for today, my friend!😇
Some stretches, a nice easy day!☺️
Perfect! I hope that you enjoy your mellow and relaxing day, my friend! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
I hope you have a very relaxing New Year's eve as well my friend!!👍😀
Thanks so much, my friend, and that sounds glorious to me! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
Like the ice in my diet coke. 🥃

oh no, full on winter mode over there already?
All of a sudden we went from 50° to freezing my friend!🥶
That’s how it happens in the Pacific Northwest Lol!😇
i just recently saw in socmed regarding these types of threadlike ice you have here. interesting!
They are very interesting and they are everywhere up here in the winter time my friend!☺️
On most of the hiking trails, you end up walking on top of these!😊
Hoarfrost is interesting isn't it? I haven't seen it in years (thank goodness) but it is really cool to see in person! I'm glad to hear it hasn't been too cold there yet, hopefully the rain and snow will stay away for some time yet!
I just ran into a neighbor on my hike today, and he was hoping that when the atmospheric river came through, we would have had freezing temperatures and therefore lots of deep snow!!😳
No thank you.......Lol!!🤣😇🥶
