This morning hit with a bitter bite, a sharp contrast to the balmy 20 degrees we enjoyed just last week. I would’ve preferred a more gradual shift, but instead, we plunged straight into the cold. Still, my morning walk was bracing in all the best ways, the crisp air clearing my head with every step. The spiky, prickly Japanese chestnut fruits, just days ago still tightly sealed, now looked ready to burst open, as if they too had felt the shock of the cold snap. It wasn’t the smooth transition I had hoped for, but there was something refreshing about the raw, abrupt change.
