Introduction

Merry Christmas everyone! Last blog post of mine, I talked about how I spend the day before Christmas. This time, there's not much changes as I am still on my work schedule here in Japan. To make it different, I planned to spend my late-night activity in a nearby amusement park. Without further ado, here's what happened:

"The Ferris wheel has been a symbol of the park for about 70 years at Arakawa Amusement Park"

My Late-Night Travels

I started my travel at the night of Christmas day, and I was only wearing few layers. I got careless as I started soon to realize that I underestimated the coldness outside. This "careless" feeling then grew to "hubris", and I could no longer bring myself to walk back home as I already travelled more than a kilometer. Hopefully, this will not get worse, or is it?

Near the Ogunohara Park

To forget the coldness of the night, I distracted myself by playing Pokémon Go but it was still not enough. The cold penetrated to the back of my hand while spinning the poke balls. But alas, I arrived at the destination or so I thought. I couldn't see any Ferris wheel, so I checked my map, and it really was not there! I don't know what lead me to think that it's supposed to be there but maybe my brain did not function well due to the coldness. (lol)

The Multi-purpose Toiled of Ogunohara Park

As I was standing near the multi-purpose toilet, I was deciding if I should really go to the amusement park. Again, my brain was not functioning well, so I started moving forward while I was thinking about it. Maybe it's like the saying, "Testing the waters". After another kilometer, I said to myself that I couldn't take it. So, I grabbed my coin purse, picked up the coins, and inserted it to the vending machine.

Oh gracious hot corn soup!

After buying the warm corn soup, I stuffed it to the front pocket of my jacket making it as a heater. If my hands could talk like the hands of Yuji Itadori of Jujutsu Kaisen, maybe it would be thanking me. After several meters of advancing, I was distracted by this very long slide. No one was there and I was not sure if it is okay to play there especially late at night.

This is the longest kid slide I have ever seen in a park

There was no one there so the kid in me gave in. I was smiling like a fool after I climbed and did a slide there. Aside from the slide, the park was wide and there's also a waterfront. You can see lights reflecting the surface Sumida River. The people living near this area must be so lucky to have this cool place.

After checking out the place, I started moving again. I placed my hands on the pocket where the corn soup was. It was still warm, and I decided to drink the soup. As I was opening the can and was reaching the corner of the street, I lady was taken aback when she saw me. I know the city is safe to walk even at night, but - oh man - I must be that kind of scary looking person for her to react like that. (lol)

It was near this place when that happened

Arakawa Amusement Park

Finally, I arrived at the place. I had to go down to the stairs of Odai Bridge, and I noticed that boats could dock there. I will check it after posting this. Anyhow, I saw some people there. One was fishing by the river, and the other two were jogging who passed me by. The place was dark, so I hope I was not scaring them.

The park was closed but I was glad I could finally see the Ferris wheel that I was looking for. The park itself is wide, and I could see some closed shops inside. I went further ahead, and I could see this stadium. Arriving there I noticed a couple that were talking, but I paid no attention to them.

In Google Maps, it's called the Alice's Square

Taking pictures there, the couple left the vicinity. Maybe they got shy, who knows, but one thing I wanted to do was to take picture of the place. While taking pictures, I could imagine that this place could get lively. My mind started imagining scenarios here, such as someone having a performance here while people are clapping. Take a look at these photos, I hope you can imagine it as well.

POV: You are the performer (lol)

The Ferris wheel when standing from Alice's Square

I also noticed some trees here which might be Sakura trees. If that is the case, then this place will be the best at spring season. Imagine seeing the Sakura flowers while the Ferris wheel is on the background. Or, seeing the Sakura trees from inside the Ferris wheel. I wish I visited this place last time.

Afterword

Woah, what a lengthy post! Let's leave the story until there. There's more story from where it ended but let's focus the main story in Arakawa Amusement Park. And, oh boy, I wish I have visited this place nine months ago. I could have explored the area inside while seeing the Sakura flowers. Anyway, no point in regretting this. Let's leave all the regret in 2024 and embrace its remaining days. If you have reached this part, thank you so much for reading. I hope you also got curious of some of the places I showed. That's it! See you next time. Thank you and Merry Christmas! :)
