The hiking trails of Ozarklife WOW! I never know what to expect when out on the trails and today was totally unexpected. While @madame-cyntaia and I were walking down a mostly dry creek we were joined by a fisherman of sorts. I almost stepped on this midland water snake ๐ who had just made a fresh catch. The snake is about 12 inches long and the minnow maybe an inch and a half. The poor minnow was still alive as the snake was slipping out of the water, truly an amazing glimpse into the Ozarklife wildlife.
In the deep waterhole we spotted another larger midland water snake about 24 inches long hidden by the edge of the waterhole, he was hard to spot with the glare on the water.
After all that exciting stuff it was time to work 2- close. A slow shift but the guests were friendly and generous so a win win today!

Are those type of snakes poisonous? If not, I would have grabbed it by the tail and whacked it enough to drop the fish. I actually did that once to a garden snake who was fishing in my outdoor pond! Not on my watch!

I have a bit of a soft spot for snakes personally so I like to observe their behaviors and they eat a lot of vermin as well. These Midland Water Snakes are not poisonous but like any snake a bite still hurts, and in this case the anticoagulant in the saliva makes for a bleeder.

Thanks, nope not poisonous but the bite bleeds more because they have an anticoagulant in their saliva.
Hmmm..... I think I'll still stay away from them Lol๐ณ
The wonder of wildlife, a truly rare moment to witness...
I will remember this forever, seeing wildlife doing its own thing with no cares about people, just an awesome moment to be part of.
