My eldest son and I set off to explore and make decisions today at the Education Fair.
The moment has arrived to give his future academic and career routes significant thought as his final tests are just around.
Being a VWO student with the highest degree of Dutch secondary education, my son has several choices.
Although he already show a strong passion in law, he is not clear about the particular path he wish to follow.
The Education Fair gave a great chance to explore several institutions and programs.
We visited several universities and higher professional education (HBO) schools, including:
Maastricht University: My son was immediately drawn to the law program here, expressing a particular interest in criminal law.
Leiden University: We explored criminology options, but it didn't quite match his top preferences.
Tilburg University: Business law caught his attention, aligning with his growing interest in the field.
Beyond universities, we also explored HBO courses like Real Estate Science and Facility Management.
While these options didn't spark as much enthusiasm, they broadened his horizons.
The day was filled with information and discussions, but it also included a much-needed break for lunch.
A quick visit to McDonald's offered a good and handy rest for refills.
I realized as we negotiated the fair the value of allowing time to investigate and weigh several routes.
It's a major choice, hence it's normal to be uncertain.
Finding a field that fits his hobbies and ambitions is very crucial.
Luckily, my son has till May next year to submit his last application.
This allows him enough time to keep investigating, thinking, and making decisions.
A little rainbow signifying hope and fresh starts emerged in the sky as the day was ending.
After a day full of opportunities and thrills, it was a fitting farewell.
We had a nutritious meal of fish with veggies at home to offset our day of discovery.
It was a great approach to relax and replenish following a demanding day.
I felt pride and expectation as I sat on the sofa thinking back on the day.
My son is starting a fresh chapter in his life, and that makes me eager to see where his path leads.
