Hey Actifitters,
The sunny weather continued yesterday. It's actually kind of strange, the lawn stayed green the entire summer, which usually never happens, but now that we're getting close to fall, it's starting to turn brown because it's so dry. So weird!
Anyways, that is of course not going to stop us from walking to our forest as usual.
Since it is indeed 'our' forest, I feel very safe letting Kaia run off-leash as much as she wants.
Even if she sometimes chases the local wildlife. Isn't this one super cute, just popping its head through a hole in the trunk?
Or a bigger one looking for the rest of its deer family.
After that walk, it was still early in the afternoon, and the plan was to work on the yard. Much needed! But I realized I had no gas left for the mower. Combined with the heat, it completely destroyed my motivation: yard work will wait... But a little later, we did drive to get some gas, at least we'll be ready next time the motivation is back.. And since we were already out, I decided to get out of our routine a little bit and we went to Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve. It's a nice little forest, pretty close from home, but we hadn't visited in a while, mostly because of some construction going on. The short trail (less than a mile I think without detour) starts as a very easy almost paved path.
But it quickly turns into a forest, not so different from ours, with all the fallen trees, and of course the sun views through the leaves.
There are some differences though, like these bridges. I don't know why but I like them! Like I said, it's been really dry recently, but at some other times of the year, there can be a little water under them.
And of course, the main difference: the lake!
It's great for reflections and of course I have a zillions photos that hopefully I will gather into a reflections post (yes I know I said that so many times...). It will be awesome with the fall colors, I have to come back for sure in a few weeks.
The platform is closed right now because of some storm damages. I probably have too much imagination but somehow it reminded me of the Walking Dead ("Don't Dead Open Inside")...
The sunset started over the lake as we got much closer.
But after a few loops, we made our way back to the entrance. Plenty of beautiful meadows and flowers too.
I remembered the best sunset viewpoints were a little outside the park.
But the best are actually near this attraction with big rocks right in front of the park.
It's more for kids but it's pretty cool with the sunset light.
It wasn't a long walk but it was a nice change. On the drive back, we could see the big beautiful Moon and of course I couldn't resist: we went for one last short walk in the neighborhood to catch a better view. I was very happy with some of my photos, like this one:
Well, once again, no yard work done, and not much done in the house either. But who cares? It was a great day spent mostly outdoor!
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.

Breathtaking and eye-soothing views as usual. We love the photos.

Thanks!
Glad you liked the photos, it's nice in the forest with all the green, and hopefully will be much nicer when the fall colors really start.
Happy Wednesday!

Wow that's another nice forest to walk around and explore. I hope the platform gets fixed soon for better view of the lake, perhaps? I can imagine it would be truly lovely with fall colors too. I hope Kaia enjoyed the walk too. Well, I hope you get around to work around the yard soon. I'd say being outdoors all day is well worth it. Have a fantastic week!

Yeah, it's pretty cool there too, it's a bit small, but we just go around a few times. The platform is not that critical, there are plenty of other lake views, I just kept them for my possible reflections post (one can dream it will happen, right?). We will definitely go back when the colors really start.
Have a great Wednesday!
