Another day, another couple thousand words written. I got distracted by working on a dissertation on private law and how it would likely look in practice, which is interesting and forces me to do a little reading through the literature but also is something that I’m probably not going to be able to neaten up and release for a while.
It’s also not one of the things that fits into my main publication schedule I’m hoping for, so I need to get better about that (though I am trying to do at least one Substack post a week, which is where that will probably go).
I wrote another 1500 words on Kenoma today. Right now I’m going through some of the background of the setting and making sure I’ve written it out in a way that I think will be productive for audiences. I’m going to need to pump up the progress if I want to have it done by March, though, but I think I should be able to do that.
Made a playlist for Kenoma. I’ve been jumping around a bunch of my other playlists while working on Kenoma, which is fine but one advantage of having a dedicated playlist for a project I’m working on is that I can get right back into the vibe by choosing to listen to some of the songs I have there but not on other playlists.
Since I need to be in the zone to write, it’s helpful to have a reliable way to get in the zone. That may sound like a petty complaint coming from someone whose output by volume (if nothing else) is probably in the top 1% of writers, but doing things that help with your work tend to make your work hit the point where you can do it professionally.
Didn’t get a whole lot of physical activity today. It’s been just the wrong kind of weather, where it’s too cold in the morning but it’s started to get too hot in the day, so I went for my main walk and then stayed inside where the AC is more agreeable.
I need to be better about reading, since I read while pacing around and that gives plenty of steps.
I also need to get back into the habit of logging my water consumption. I’ve let myself do a lot of tunnel-vision work the past few days, and that’s disruptive. Not only am I planning to donate blood next week (and being hydrated is helpful with that), but I don’t want to get tired and burnt out from simply not having the physical resources to do work.
Overall, though, I’m optimistic. I should hit the 80,000 word mark tomorrow, which will be fun.
