Walking the Taragarh Hills Trail to the Chilla of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani

Today I got a chance to visit a famous and old Dargah situated amidst the beautiful hills of Ajmer with my family. It was morning, there was a slight chill in the air and a strange peace was spread on the road. As we were moving towards the Dargah, the view of the hills spread on both sides of the road was becoming more attractive with every step.

As soon as we reached the Dargah, the first thing that attracted our attention was the big beautiful gate. Its carvings and its old Rajasthani style were such that every visitor is forced to stop there for a few moments and look at it. Standing near the gate, first of all we took some pictures, and to be honest, the gate looked even more beautiful in the light morning sunlight.

The atmosphere changes as soon as you enter inside- the light breeze, the smell of bedsheets and perfume, the old designs carved on the walls and the sounds of pigeons flying overhead, all together make the atmosphere spiritual. The peace on my family's faces is clearly visible in the photographs too. Standing there it feel as if time had stopped for a while.

The beauty inside the Dargah is different. The moment I saw the glimpse of the gold and silver decorated Roza, my mind was filled with great respect and peace. So many years old building, but even today the same shine, same workmanship and same feeling. The peace that one gets while praying cannot be expressed in any words.

The laughter of children in the courtyard of the Dargah, the relaxed faces of the people who came to pray, and the soft sounds coming from the shops outside – all together create a different atmosphere. My family also spent a lot of time there, sometimes sitting in the courtyard, enjoying the atmosphere, and sometimes feeling the breeze coming from near the door.

Someone has rightly said that some places steal your tiredness, and this Dargah is one of those places.

When we came out, the pleasant breeze coming from the mountains was even more refreshing. The market outside the Dargah is a world in itself-colorful shops, bedsheets, candles, flowers, and even kitchen utensils. Feel a different happiness while doing some shopping and seeing the small stalls on the way.

By the time of return, evening had started setting and the sky was filled with light orange colour. At that very moment we fill that the view from the top cannot be missed, so we stayed there for a while and experienced that beautiful evening. The faint lights of the city from a distance and the sun setting between the hills – these moments were more beautiful than the pictures.

Today's activity day wasn't just about counting steps; It was a spiritual journey, which included prayers, peace and also some precious moments spent with the family.
