It’s a rainy day up here in the Pacific Northwest! It’s been precipitating pretty much all day long! Some of us enjoy the rain and some of us don’t, but it does have a way of making ‘shrooms look extra special!
These guys look simply beautiful! They’re all glistening and look really tasty-enough so that you might want to partake.
If you think they look delicious, you might want to rethink that. This mushroom is called Hyphloma fascicular; more commonly known as clustered woodlover or sulfur tuft. It’s considered poisonous and if ingested can cause vomiting, diarrhea, paralysis, loss of vision and even seizures. It can take up to 10 hours for symptoms to manifest. They say the symptoms should subside after several days, but that it’s possible that it can also be a contributing factor to death.
Very pretty but not worth all the side effects for sure! 😳
Now these next guys are another matter all together!
These guys are Coprinellus micaceus. They are considered edible and have some similarities to the Inky blacks I showed a couple of days ago. They too produce a self destructive enzyme making their shelf life short. Cooking it stops the process, but I’ve also read overcooking can destroy the flavor.
As I’ve mentioned before on previous posts, please do your due diligence before eating any mushrooms! Experts have made mistakes in identifying ‘shrooms and it has cost them their lives! It’s not worth being wrong!
Work today was busy with just myself to man the fort during a busy exam day. I do multitask well which is a plus, but when I stop, I’m exhausted for the day. Must be the adrenaline rush of knowing I’ve got the responsibility of the entire clinic sitting on me. Job security!🤪

Yeah, that's why I don't go foraging for mushrooms! They are too scary. I am an absolute mushroom fanatic, but I will only buy them in stores. It all stems from my first watching of the original version of The Beguiled as a teenager! That was the 1971 version. Then many years later as I was watching the 2017 version with Nicole Kidman, I suddenly realized I had seen an earlier version, and knew what was to come!
