A day warming up faster than I was ready for. Getting too warm to get out on the bike to ride any of the hills around here. Hid away inside until later in the day. Picked a walk to check getting to a track on foot from home
A bit of a Christmas theme happening
The suburb is mostly older people - so not a lot of decorations out
Minimalist works on the wrought iron gates
Was going to edit out the number but it has a line drawing on it which adds to the story
Walk plan was to access Rocky Creek - this is it - have walked this road before. It goes to a dead end that crosses the riad down to Rocky Creek track

Bit of a zigzag down to Rocky Creek - only ever been down here by car. Longer than I had thought and not the safest place to walk
Fire trail is a bit overgrown and boggy down below above the creek. Never good for orchids - the garden escapee likes it
Did walk out above the creek for about a km - flannel flowers but no orchids
Got some height over the creek
A few good parts - big eucalyptus trees coming up for the creek, no traffic noise, track to myself, cicadas sound of summer

Wonder if there are orchids under the powerlines that side
Took the side track that runs parallel to the road back up the hill. Have seen orchids up the lower end before
Bonnet orchids there were - saw the leaves first - orchid of the day
Cymbidium orchid up high makes 2nd orchid of the day - has flowered not ling ago
Found a hyacinth orchid up higher
Dipodium variegatum - one of two plants flowering
Track comes up to the sports field in East Killara - cricket match going on.
Made for a huge hot walk - pleased I found some orchids. And I know cycling up those big hills would have been too hard. Best walked.
Dinner: Beef and black bean sauce following a Ken Hom recipe - used green beans instead of asparagus

I always admire the exotic orchids you share. They are a welcome sight after being surrounded and saturated by Phaleonopsis all day!
Also is that fire trail a milkweed? Very fiery
Perplexing sights today. I like your decorating, reminds me of my lima tree! But why is the weather minimalist as well! The least that your clouds could have done for you was provide a nice and thin blanket of snow! Temporary, for the pictures! Perfectly safe. It would melt right away anyway!
