Back to Kalkari Trail for pink fingers : September 10 2024

in Actifit2 months ago

Have had in my mind getting on the train to go and walk an often walked track in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP for quite a few days. Finally got the focus and went out atiund lunchtime - took a packed lunch. Train ride for 39 minutes for easy access on the bike to the NP. Is a very difficult day for me - 4th anniversary of my mother's passing. The bush is the best place for that

Pea flower against the backdrop of a scribbly gum

First kunzea of the season - a burst of purple

Black tailed cockatoo was calling. Going to guess the female is sitting on eggs. Male was close by - got him in the zoom

Trigger flower just taking shape

Last walk there was one orchid budding - two now

Hibbertia

First of the orange pea flowers for the season

Another hibbertia - always hard to cope with bright yellow for photos

Umbrellata burchardia

Sundew flower - one of two angles

Flower is tiny

Lots of pink grevillea flowering - stopped for one and got this bee to pose

Slender rice flower - side on

Front on

Did find pink fingers orchids in spot seen last year

Front on - caladenia carnea

First for the season

Twins - two plants. This the tribute photo for my mother's memory RIP

Side on view to show the calli on the labellum

Flowers have a range of colours - a lot of pink here

2nd orchid of the day - spotted sun orchid - thelymitra ixioides. Was surprised to find this was the only one still going.

Dampiera with the yellow centre

Syndey boronia

Grass bursting into flower

Under the powerlines - a few orchid spots along here

Small waxlip orchid - not quite in focus

Side on of caladenia glossodia

Zoomed in a bit - the parsons boots

Stopped to take a photo of the pea flower - got a bonus bug

Shiny side from the other side

Was hoping to see the new season waratah. Well it used to be here - been smashed down by the electricity company clearing under the high level transmission lines. What gets me is the tree was not under the lines anyway and the lines are 30 metres clear

Next of the pea flowers - close to the ground

Walked the side track down to the edge of the drop off - found a bearded orchid spike on the way

Leptospermum squarrosum

Bearded orchid just opening. Enough to ID it as calochilus paludosus - the tape is the give away

Step back - flower and a few bracts between flower and ground

A bit more photo work to get detail of the tape - happy with that

Test photo - is this the same as the last one?

The colours here caught my eye. It is a seed pod. It appears to have a vigorous miukd thing happening. Never seen anything like it

Bearded orchids bud seen on the way back

Drumstick flower

Donkey orchid budding on Chase Trail - a week

Caught train back from Asquith station - platform view

The station does not have an overpass or an underpass. Got to cross by the road bridge up the way. Did make good access and train was empty going back even though it was achool time

Did the shopping at the Gordon end. My bike recording did not go to plan - it recorded the train journey back.

Dinner: Spaghetti bolognese

Trades: Sold DPCW.DU, MYI. Bought a bunch of ASX uranium stocks
