My first fake album cover

It's been a couple of months since I started learning to use adobe photoshop and the experience has been so gratifying. I like to make something that people can enjoy, and the feedback of my edition has been wonderful.
This just motivates me to keep going.

Today I want to share my latest edition cause it's the one that, when I turned back, make me feel proud of my work:

I don't think that every single one of my illustrations has turned out exactly as I thought them when I started them. For me that's the most fun part of this work, learning what it's really in you mind during the creative process.

I originally wanted to make a realistic version of this photo:

Like many others this photo sparked the imagination, portraying itself as a giant lobster monster on top of a metallic planet when in reality is just a regular lobster in a black bucket, with the water making the illusion of stars.

First time I saw this was a couple of years back and recently it came back to me. I love the illusion of this photo and that idea was perfect for the concept of my work -after all, I'm that new cosmonaut, exploring the cosmos exactly to find intriguing imagery like this one- So, with the experience I have been getting in photoshop decided to give it a go.

So the first thing was trying to locate the best quality/resolution of that photo, cause this:

Yeah, that ain't gonna work.

Some time looking and the best I could fine was not enough for the kind of worked that I have in mind, but that was not gonna stop my inspiration.

If I could take that image and converting it to a higher quality it would be great, but how? The only thing it occurred me was vectorize it, but if I do that the result would look more minimalistic.

Then I remember other of my works, and thought it would look perfect. This would be the first change of my original idea, and in my mind it looked great.

How to do it? well I try using photoshop but didn't get far, so I went back to an old friend:

Inkscape

I love inkscape, was my first introduction to editing and illustrating images.

So the process began, and it was a long one. It always is with this low poly effects:

And actually have a couple of problems cause I was working in the incorrect layers (typical huh?).

Because I needed most control over the image, decided to export the lobster and the planet by separated, even if at the moment of mounting them in photoshop would be awkward:

I export them in pair cause at the moment didn't know if I would like it more with or without borders.

The next thing was opening photoshop and begin to "play" until I reach something that I like. However when I "finish" something feel off.

Didn't know what it was but I could feel it. Was in that moment that I remembered an account in Instagram. This person work consist in fake album cover, and you know what? that was the feeling that this edition was giving me.

Now I just needed a name for the band and for the album, and I settle with:

To the Moon and Back

I'm really happy with the result and to this date, is the piece of work I'm most proud of.

EXTRA

1. After all of this there's some changes that I would have done if occurred to me during the edition.
   The first one is putting a barcode or something like that in one of the corners, to give that essence of album cover.

   The second one is kind off unclear, but here's the thing. I put the final product as a wallpaper on my pc, and I love how one of my skins of rainmeter look on it:

There's something with the font and color of "saturday" along with the numbers that I just love.
