This video features another live performance and our big band’s second performance of “Children Of Sanchez” and agin, the date of this recording is Oct 31 2025.
“Children Of Sanchez” is the same song as the previous post, but this is 10 days later, a different performance venue, and a weird costume. Not a repost! It’s October 31st 2025 in the vid and this is Part 2. Take a look at the previous day’s post to see the previous performance.
Fun song for me. Probably boring to the audience.
It’s a long a hypnotic song. The audience needs to be intimate. The band needs to reel the in with dynamics. Not sure if the video conveys or attempts at dynamics. There wasn't much in the chart. Thankfully our Director waves his hands all around and helps us. Insects get scared, but that's OK.
WTF Moment you can’t see in the video…
I actually fixed a small detail in the bass part I was playing. Unfortunately, I nearly broke another part that I wasn't struggling with previously. I think I got a two for two. That's not good.
I wonder if you can see/hear the new part.
Can you see/hear the small difference? Can you notice what I changed between the previous video and this video?
I'll give you a hint. The intentional difference on speaking of occurs during the 16th note pedal section. It's one of those dangerously unimportant things I've mentioned before. It's a rhythmic nuance that potentially disrupts the pulse and the groove of the song. It's easily debatably not worth the attempt. I think I got away with it. If this was a studio recording, no way. Most of this stuff is a NO-GO in the studio.
ANOTHER CHUCK MANGIONE song is next!!!
A bass part I improved on without breaking anything else.
Thank you for reading, watching, and supporting.
Please leave a comment or critique. Wanna see more weird background stuff?
Wanna see less?
Wanna see more fretboard/left hand? I do.
Everybody likes the new GoPro footage, right?
I recently purchased two new used GoPro's and it's been much better than my stupid iPhone. They are used and the batteries run short, but it's much easier to use.

Another great tune by Mangione-
He Was A Friend of Mine
YES! I love that song. And lots of other Chucks songs.
I gave it go:
The bass player (at the time) Charles Meeks is one of my favorite bass players.
I’ve binge watched CM’s old performances on YouTube. I love this one too:
Epic musicians.
He was a friend? Wow!
Seems like he was always surrounded by great musicians.
Did he get you tickets to the Olympics? I’m pretty sure they used “Give It All You Got” for the 84 olympics.
Cool song… it’s my nemesis…
Chuck a friend of mine? No. Sorry. Nice nemesis tune.
Jumping genres a bit, but here's one of my favorite bass players- Scott LaFaro
Is he part Brazilian?
Lots of his music seems to have that influence. (Maybe Chuck was going “toe to toe” with another epic dude, Sergio Medes.)
According to AI - Chuck Mangione was not Brazilian; he was an American musician. However, he greatly admired Brazilian music and incorporated its elements—such as strong melodies, disciplined rhythms, and rich harmonies—into his own work. He once said Brazilian music had many of the ingredients he strived for in his own music.
This reminds me of back then in Naga City, after a busy afternoon shift in the theatre, we’d sit in a bar at midnight listening to Chuck. I love his music.
