The obligatory step: volume practice!

Hi everyone!

I often try to do small sessions, a kind of warm-up session, of sketching, just drawing volumes, simple objects.
This allows me to improve my intuitive perspective (an artist should understand and use perspective without having to make all the perspective marks).

So the exercise consists of drawing simple shapes in 3D, feeling the perspective and then adding some other objects over them.

I also tried to put the wrapping lines, as you can see in a wireframe render in a 3D software; it's a bit difficult at the beginning and often my drawings look flat.

But there is a nice trick to easily simulate a 3D effect, which is to draw ellipses continuously with your hand in the direction you want - as the object gets closer to the camera, the ellipses get bigger and bigger, and vice versa.
Then all you have to do is draw the outline over the volume, which is now easier to visualise.

Another important aspect is to practise ellipses and cylinders in all views.
Remember that the more the ellipse is in front of you, the more round it is.

If you turn the cylinder upwards, the horizontal diameter won't change, but the vertical diameter of the ellipse will become smaller and smaller as far as your eye can see the long side of the cylinder.

The opposite is true for horizontal rotation.

This is one of the properties of the ellipse, which can be seen as a flat, rounded disc, unlike the sphere, which remains the same no matter which way you look at it.

I hope you will like it!

I invite you to do this kind of exercise to practice your drawing skills :)

See you soon for more creations!
