Hello everyone, welcome again to one of my traveling-posts, where I share with the Hive community the selection of shots I take during my trips and journeys around Italy and abroad. Today I am finally glad to share with you the pictures I took during my long weekend in Bologna, last November. As usual, I really hope you enjoy the virtual journey I am taking you over, through the showcase of my photos.
These first shots I share are from the tour I had together with Federica, my brother's girlfriend, who took me around some very good museums and exhibitions, taking advantage of the fact that during those days, in Bologna, there was a big cultural festival occurring, the "FOTO-INDUSTRIA: VI Biennale di Fotografia dell'Industria e del Lavoro".
The event takes place every two years and is organized and promoted by a various of governmental institutions, museums and, most important, the foundation "MAST", which is a humanitarian organization funded by a philanthropic entrepreneur, a woman that loves culture and art, and gives money to create a series of artistic exhibitions during the week of the biennale FOTO-INDUSTRIA event. The MAST has a proper building, which carries the same name of the foundation, and this time I was lucky enough to see some great exhibitions.
In general, FOTO-INDUSTRIA is meant to give visibility to unknown and new artists from all over the world, that all make exhibitions about the same theme which changes every edition; what remains the same is the general idea of promoting the importance of the connection between art (especially photography) and the industrial world, which are intrinsically and historically very linked to each other. In particular, this year, the even more specific subject of the event was the concept of GAME, so everything related to photography, industry, and the game as something fun, something to play with, no matter your age.
For sure, I took advantage of the event occurring over the weekend I was in Bologna to visit some important museums and buildings which were open for free during FOTO-INDUSTRIA; nevertheless, I also wanted to go around the city to visit it as a true tourist, because this was my very first time in Bologna, indeed.
My brother, the second day, led me around the most important spots of Bologna, telling me all the legends, fun facts, and anecdotes behind the main buildings and churches of the city. Bologna is so rich of art and full of history that was almost overwhelming to get in touch with so many different attractions all at once.
Indeed, from time to time, we went to another museum and saw another interesting exhibition, just to take a "break" from al the walking and riding around. I have to say, I was also extremely lucky with the weather that day: sunny and warm, Bologna in general is never like that, and this is indeed one of the reasons why my brother hates it a little bit... rain, humidity, god and cold are the main characteristics of this city... I doubt I could ever live there!
Even though the center of Bologna is extremely "crowded" of buildings all attached to one the other, and porticos everywhere, tiny and narrow streets... from time to time there is also some hidden parks and gardens, where kids, families, and students try to escape from the most chaotic spots of the city center. Here the calm reigns, and when it's sunny and warm, you can just relax and enjoy yourself while observing all the colorful surrounding.
In just a few hours we passed from a photography exhibitions installed into a museum, to visit the most famous church, and then back to a library which was set into a deconsecrated church, to then jumping again into the crowds to see the famous "Piazza del Nettuno". I really loved this tour, even though it was a little tiring: let's say, my brother was also a little bit enthusiast because he could show me everything that he learnt and got to know very well in the past few years while he's been living in Bologna.
My brother told me and made me discover so many super interesting and peculiar aspects of Bologna: there is portico from which you could hear the voices of the person that whispers on the wall opposite where you're staying; also, the statue of Neptune, if looked at from a specific perspective, looks like he has an erection, but in fact it's just his hand fingers!; in the same square of that statue, there is a big chandelier that used to be light up every time a new child was born in the town; and the public toilets where used more like actual thermal centers or guesthouses, and where extremely fancy; there is one famous church called Saint Stephen which in reality is built in 7 different parts, all of which is a church of itself... that is the reason why that place is commonly known as the Complex of the Seven Churches. It's useless to say how fantastic I found all that.
Unfortunately, Bologna is also a town that carries some important sorrow, due to the fact that in this region there was the real beginning of the Resistance fight of the Partisans against the Fascists' occupation of Italy, during the Second World War. So many died to free Italy from the dictatorship, from the war... and so many were never recognized, as they were either killed in brutal ways or disappeared forever and their bodies were never found.
There is a special place, not far from Bologna, in the area of the "Colli Bolognesi" where many Partisans where killed, and in the same place, today, there is a commemorative installation. This place is called Memoriale di Sabbiuno, and is impressive. It is one of those places with such a strong energy, you will know what I am talking about when you visit it.

Ciao a tutti, benvenuti di nuovo in uno dei miei post di viaggio, dove condivido con la comunità Hive la selezione di scatti che realizzo durante i miei viaggi e viaggi in giro per l'Italia e all'estero. Oggi sono finalmente felice di condividere con voi le foto che ho scattato durante il mio lungo weekend a Bologna, lo scorso novembre. Come al solito, spero davvero che vi piaccia il viaggio virtuale che vi sto portando avanti, attraverso la vetrina delle mie foto.
Questi primi scatti che condivido sono del tour che ho fatto insieme a Federica, la ragazza di mio fratello, che mi ha portato in giro per musei e mostre molto belle, approfittando del fatto che in quei giorni, a Bologna si svolgeva un grande festival culturale, il "FOTO-INDUSTRIA: VI Biennale di Fotografia dell'Industria e del Lavoro".
L'evento si svolge ogni due anni ed è organizzato e promosso da diverse istituzioni governative, musei e, soprattutto, dalla fondazione "MAST", che è un'organizzazione umanitaria finanziata da un fondo filantropico imprenditrice, una donna che ama la cultura e l'arte, e dona soldi per creare una serie di mostre artistiche durante la settimana della manifestazione biennale FOTO-INDUSTRIA. Il MAST ha un edificio vero e proprio, che porta lo stesso nome della fondazione, e questa volta ho avuto la fortuna di vedere delle grandi mostre.
In generale, FOTO-INDUSTRIA ha lo scopo di dare visibilità ad artisti sconosciuti e nuovi provenienti da tutto il mondo, che realizzano tutti mostre sullo stesso tema che cambia ad ogni edizione; ciò che rimane invariato è l'idea generale di promuovere l'importanza del legame tra l'arte (soprattutto la fotografia) e il mondo industriale, che sono intrinsecamente e storicamente molto legati tra loro. In particolare, quest'anno, il tema ancora più specifico dell'evento è stato il concetto di GAME, quindi tutto ciò che riguarda la fotografia, l'industria e il gioco come qualcosa di divertente, qualcosa con cui giocare, indipendentemente dall'età.
Sicuramente ho approfittato dell'evento avvenuto nel fine settimana in cui ero a Bologna per visitare alcuni importanti musei ed edifici che erano aperti gratuitamente durante FOTO-INDUSTRIA; ciononostante avevo voglia anche di girare la città per visitarla da vero turista, perché questa era davvero la prima volta che venivo a Bologna.
Mio fratello, il secondo giorno, mi ha portato in giro per i luoghi più importanti di Bologna, raccontandomi tutte le leggende, curiosità e aneddoti dietro i principali edifici e chiese della città. Bologna è così ricca d'arte e piena di storia che è stato quasi travolgente entrare in contatto con così tante attrazioni diverse tutte in una volta.
Infatti, di tanto in tanto, andavamo in un altro museo e vedevamo un'altra mostra interessante, giusto per prenderci una "pausa" da tutte le passeggiate e le passeggiate in giro. Devo dire che sono stato molto fortunato anche con il tempo quel giorno: soleggiato e caldo, Bologna in generale non è mai così, e questo infatti è uno dei motivi per cui mio fratello la odia un po'... pioggia, umidità , Dio e il freddo sono le caratteristiche principali di questa città... dubito che potrei mai viverci!
Anche se il centro di Bologna è estremamente "affollato" di edifici addossati gli uni agli altri, e portici ovunque, viuzze minuscole e strette... di tanto in tanto c'è anche qualche nascosto parchi e giardini, dove ragazzi, famiglie e studenti cercano di evadere dagli angoli più caotici del centro città. Qui regna la calma, e quando c'è il sole e fa caldo, puoi semplicemente rilassarti e divertirti osservando tutto il colorato ambiente circostante.
In poche ore siamo passati da una mostra fotografica allestita in un museo, alla visita della chiesa più famosa, per poi tornare ad una biblioteca allestita in una chiesa sconsacrata, per poi saltare di nuovo tra la folla per vedere la famosa "Piazza del Nettuno". Questo tour mi è piaciuto molto, anche se è stato un po' faticoso: diciamo che anche mio fratello era un po' entusiasta perché ha potuto mostrarmi tutto quello che ha imparato e conosciuto molto bene negli ultimi anni vivendo a Bologna.
Mio fratello mi ha raccontato e mi ha fatto scoprire tanti aspetti super interessanti e particolari di Bologna: c'è un portico da cui si sentivano le voci di chi sussurra sul muro di fronte a dove ti trovi resterai; inoltre, la statua di Nettuno, se guardata da una prospettiva specifica, sembra che abbia un'erezione, ma in realtà sono solo le dita della sua mano!; nella stessa piazza di quella statua c'è un grande lampadario che veniva acceso ogni volta che nasceva un nuovo bambino in paese; e i bagni pubblici erano usati più come veri e propri centri termali o pensioni, ed erano estremamente fantasiosi; c'è una famosa chiesa chiamata Santo Stefano che in realtà è costruita in 7 parti diverse, tutte una chiesa a sé stante... ecco perché quel luogo è comunemente conosciuto come il Complesso delle Sette Chiese. Inutile dire quanto ho trovato fantastico tutto ciò.
Purtroppo Bologna è anche una città che porta con sé qualche dolore importante, dovuto al fatto che in questa regione ebbe inizio la vera e propria lotta di Resistenza dei Partigiani contro l'occupazione fascista dell'Italia , durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Tanti morirono per liberare l'Italia dalla dittatura, dalla guerra... e tanti non furono mai riconosciuti, perché o furono uccisi in modo brutale o scomparvero per sempre e i loro corpi non furono mai ritrovati.
C'è un luogo speciale, non lontano da Bologna, nella zona dei Colli Bolognesi, dove furono uccisi numerosi partigiani, e nello stesso luogo, oggi, si trova un'installazione commemorativa. Questo posto si chiama Memoriale di Sabbiuno ed è impressionante. È uno di quei posti con un'energia così forte, capirai di cosa sto parlando quando lo visiterai.
