Yesterday, I was with a group of photographer friends in one of the places in Guanabacoa that still enjoys enchanting natural beauty. It is called Los Naturistas and, although today it is a small settlement, in the past it was a place for nature lovers.

In Los Naturistas, these days, the grass is green and abundant. If you are someone who enjoys venturing into the forests to explore and relax, this is the ideal place. Besides cows, it is common to occasionally find horses grazing. Another attraction of this neighborhood is that it hosts a unique local development family project in the whole country called Bacoretto, whose products — rice, plantain, and yucca flour — are created for people who cannot consume gluten, such as celiacs, but are also helpful for diabetics and those wanting to maintain their health.

We went there, among other purposes, to get to know Bacoretto from the inside. Very few people know about their products, and it is true that many mothers with celiac children live daily stressed because they don't know how to feed them properly. For that reason, we will accompany the photos we took with an article to continue spreading the work of this local project and its social impact, mainly in Guanabacoa, but also throughout the country.

We were welcomed by the mother and brain behind this business, Noelia (the lady who is serving the coffee while being photographed). They are expanding little by little; soon they will have a candy shop and a bakery for celiacs, all thanks to the support from the Guanabacoa government and several NGOs from different countries.

There, my friends and I not only learned about the process of making and packaging the flour, but also got to know more about Bacoretto’s beginnings and the challenges they face, all in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere, like lifelong friends, with coffee and uncontrollable kisses from the house dog, called Nube.

The lady was very happy about our visit and grateful that more people talk to others about Bacoretto's warm mission.

Hola a todos los miembros de la comunidad.

Ayer estuve con un grupo de amigos fotógrafos en uno de los lugares de Guanabacoa que aún goza de una belleza natural encantadora. Se llama Los Naturistas y, aunque hoy es un caserío, en el pasado fue un sitio para personas amantes de la ecología.

En Los Naturistas, por estos días, el pasto es verde y abundante. Si eres una persona a la que le gusta adentrarse en los bosques para curiosear y relajarse, este es el lugar ideal. Y, además de vacas, es usual encontrar, en ocasiones, caballos alimentándose del pasto. Pero otro de los atractivos de este reparto es que aquí se encuentra un proyecto familiar de desarrollo local único en todo el país llamado Bacoretto, cuyos productos —la harina de arroz, plátano y yuca— están creados para personas que no pueden consumir gluten como los celíacos, pero también son de ayuda para diabéticos y personas que quieran mantener su salud.

Fuimos al lugar, entre otras funciones, a conocer a Bacoretto desde dentro. Muy pocas personas conocen sus mercancías y es un hecho que hay muchas madres con niños celíacos que viven tensionadas diariamente porque no saben cómo alimentarlos. Por esa razón, acompañaremos las fotos que tomamos para publicar un artículo y continuar divulgando la labor de este proyecto local y su impacto social, fundamentalmente en Guanabacoa, y en el resto del país también.

Nos recibió la madre del cerebro detrás de este negocio, Noelia (la señora que está sirviendo el café mientras es fotografiada). Ellos se están expandiendo poco a poco; pronto tendrán una dulcería y una panadería para celíacos, todo esto gracias a la ayuda del gobierno de Guanabacoa y varias ONG de diferentes países.

Allí, mis amigos y yo no solo estuvimos conociendo sobre el proceso para crear la harina y envasarla, sino que también supimos más acerca de los inicios de Bacoretto y los desafíos que enfrentan, todo de forma amena y agradable, como conocidos de toda la vida, con café y besos incontrolables de la perrita de la casa, llamada Nube.

La señora estuvo muy contenta por nuestra visita y agradecida de que más personas le hablen a otros sobre la cálida misión de Bacoretto.
