When traveling abroad, it is always recommended to eat only local food. However, sometimes you may want to try the flavors of your homeland and, on this occasion, I will tell you how it went!

Quando si viaggia all’estero, si consiglia sempre di mangiare solo il cibo locale. Tuttavia, a volte può venire voglia dei sapori della propria terra e in questa occasione vi racconto come è andata!
As you may remember from the last posts, I spent several days on the island of Malta to visit its cultural and natural beauties. During this experience, my boyfriend and I wanted to try different cuisines: Maltese, of course, but also ethnic ones (Japanese, Chinese and Indian) and, finally, Italian food.
Malta is an island that is only a few hours away from Italy. In particular, the closest region is Sicily. Over the years, many Italians have reached Malta in search of fortune, and some have even opened restaurants where they have passed on their precious recipes. For this reason, tasting Italian food abroad for the first time was a very positive experience!
Come forse ricorderete dagli ultimi post, ho passato diversi giorni nell’isola di Malta per visitare le sue bellezze culturali e naturali. In questa esperienza io e il mio fidanzato abbiamo voluto assaggiare diverse cucine: quella maltese, ovviamente, ma anche quelle etniche (giapponese, cinese e indiana) e, infine, anche il cibo italiano.
Malta è un’isola che dista solo qualche ora dall’Italia. In particolare, la regione più vicina è la Sicilia. Nel corso degli anni, molti italiani hanno raggiunto Malta alla ricerca di fortuna, e alcuni hanno anche aperto dei ristoranti dove hanno trasmesso le preziose ricette. Per questo motivo, assaggiare il cibo italiano all’estero per la prima volta è stata un’esperienza molto positiva!

The pizza in Malta was truly fabulous. We tried it in two different pizzerias, and both satisfied us: the ingredients were abundant and the dough was very soft!
The difference is that in Italy simple pizzas are more appreciated (with 1 or 2 ingredients at most), such as marinara, margherita, tuna and onion, mushrooms, ... while in Malta they offer pizzas with at least 5 or 6 ingredients! The combinations can also be risky, such as the presence of hard-boiled egg or corn or fruit. Nonetheless, I must say that they were really good!
La pizza di Malta era davvero favolosa. L’abbiamo assaggiata in due pizzerie diverse, ed entrambe ci hanno soddisfatto: gli ingredienti erano abbondanti e l’impasto era molto morbido!
La differenza è che in Italia vengono apprezzate maggiormente le pizze semplici (con 1 o 2 ingredienti al massimo), come marinara, margherita, tonno e cipolla, funghi, … mentre a Malta offrono delle pizze con almeno 5 o 6 ingredienti! Gli abbinamenti possono essere anche azzardati, come la presenza di uovo sodo oppure di mais oppure di frutta. Ciò nonostante, devo dire che erano davvero buone!
We also tasted some typical Italian dishes such as pasta with pesto, spaghetti alla bolognese, Sicilian cannoli and mussels alla marinara. All the dishes we tried were definitely good.
In particular, I would like to recommend a place called Panormus: eating here is exactly like eating in Italy!

Abbiamo assaggiato anche alcuni piatti tipici della cucina italiana come pasta al pesto, spaghetti alla bolognese, cannoli siciliani e cozze alla marinara. Tutti i piatti che abbiamo provato erano decisamente buoni.
In particolare, mi sento di consigliare un locale che si chiama Panormus: mangiare qui è esattamente come mangiare in Italia!
Spero vi siano piaciute queste informazioni sul cibo italiano a Malta. Voi avete mai assaggiato il cibo della vostra terra all’estero?
