Today I’ll bring you to discover one of the symbols of Italian architecture: St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican City. It is also called the Papal Basilica Maxima, as it is the largest of the four papal basilicas in Rome, not only for its size but also for its importance as a symbol of Catholicism because St. Peter's Cathedral is the seat of the main papal celebrations.
I am not religious, however I gladly visited this building on a recent trip to Rome because it is an example of different architectural styles combined together in a harmonious way. The cathedral has, in fact, been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Oggi vi porto alla scoperta di uno dei simboli dell’architettura italiana: la cattedrale di San Pietro in Vaticano. Viene chiamata anche Basilica Papale Maxima, in quanto è la più grande delle quattro basiliche papali di Roma, non solo per le sue dimensioni ma anche per l’importanza come simbolo del cattolicesimo perché la cattedrale di San Pietro è la sede delle principali celebrazioni papali.
Io non sono religiosa, tuttavia ho visitato volentieri questo edificio in occasione di un recente viaggio a Roma perché è un esempio di stili architettonici diversi combinati insieme in maniera armoniosa. La cattedrale è, infatti, stata riconosciuta come Patrimonio dell’umanità UNESCO.

The construction of St. Peter's Cathedral required decades of planning and involved numerous timeless artists such as Bernardo Rossellino, Donato Bramante, Raffaello Sanzio and Michelangelo Buonarroti. The projects of the various architects fit together perfectly to obtain the wonderful Basilica we have today.
St. Peter's Cathedral is one of the largest buildings in the world: 218 meters long, with a 132-meter dome and capable of holding up to 60,000 religious people. From my point of view, the most interesting parts are the naves, and especially the right nave where we find the famous statue of Michelangelo "Pietà".
La costruzione della cattedrale di San Pietro ha richiesto decenni di progettazione e ha coinvolto numerosi artisti di fama senza tempo come Bernardo Rossellino, Donato Bramante, Raffaello Sanzio e Michelangelo Buonarroti. I progetti dei diversi architetti si sono incastrati in maniera perfetta fino a ottenere la meravigliosa Basilica che abbiamo oggi.
La cattedrale di San Pietro è uno dei più grandi edifici del mondo: lunga 218 metri, con cupola di 132 metri e in grado di contenere fino a 60000 religiosi. Dal mio punto di vista, le parti più interessanti sono le navate, e soprattutto la navata destra dove troviamo la celebre statua di Michelangelo “Pietà”.

In conclusion, if you are near Rome and the Vatican, I definitely recommend you go and visit St. Peter's Cathedral because it is an artistic jewel unique in the world.
