Italy has been one of the countries most affected by war over the centuries. Northern regions, such as Friuli-Venezia Giulia, were particularly affected during the last century.
The surviving inhabitants felt it was important to bear witness to this war for future generations, and in fact, you can find numerous museums dedicated to the war in these areas.

L’Italia è stato uno dei Paesi più colpiti dalla guerra nel corso dei secoli. In particolare, le regioni del nord come il Friuli-Venezia Giulia sono state quelle più coinvolte nello scorso secolo.
Gli abitanti sopravvissuti hanno ritenuto che fosse importante portare la testimonianza anche alle generazioni successive e, infatti, potete trovare numerosi musei dedicati alla guerra in queste zone.
The museum I'll show you today is the Military History Museum of the Julian Alps, and it illustrates how the mountains were a theater of war.
Many original artifacts and documents from the period are collected in a tour that lasts about two hours.
Il museo che vi porto a scoprire oggi si chiama Museo Storico Militare delle Alpi Giulie e racconta il modo in cui la montagna è stata teatro di guerra.
Sono raccolti molti reperti e documenti originali dell’epoca, in un percorso che dura circa 2 ore.
Over the centuries, the Julian Alps have been an important stage for three wars:
- Napoleon's campaign in the 17th and 19th centuries against the Habsburgs;
- World War I, particularly the Italo-Austrian front, which was crucial in defining the new borders of the Italian state;
- World War II, during the occupation of Yugoslavia (Eastern Europe).
Nel corso dei secoli, le Alpi Giulie sono state un palcoscenico importante per tre eventi bellici:
- Campagna napoleonica nei secoli XVII e XIX contro gli Arburgi;
- Prima Guerra Mondiale, in particolare il fronte italo-austriaco che è stato determinante per definire i nuovi confini dello Stato italiano;
- Seconda Guerra Mondiale, durante l’occupazione del territorio jugoslavo (est-europa).
Visiting this museum made me reflect on the deeper meaning of war. Despite the passing of centuries, there are still many parts of the world where war is a daily occurrence. People continue to suffer, cities continue to be bombed, and humankind is never able to learn from its mistakes.

Visitare questo museo mi ha fatto riflettere sul significato più profondo della guerra. Nonostante passino i secoli, ci sono ancora molte zone del mondo dove gli eventi bellici sono all’ordine del giorno. Le persone continuano a soffrire, le città continuano a essere bombardate e l’essere umano non è mai in grado di imparare dai propri errori.

This museum's theme is always fascinating! Excellent article, @delilhavores friend! Something I was always fascinated to see in books as a child was the propaganda art of World Wars I and II., I would get absorbed in looking at those posters that appeared on the pages of the encyclopedias in my house, and they seemed like something "parallel" to the entire conflict, like some kind of comic book... This is a good example of that propaganda that gave me that strange perception...
