Harrisville State Park Redux

Nestled up on the North West shore of Lake Huron, there is a little town between Oscoda and Alpena called Harrisville. In the town of Harrisville, there is a park that is run by the State and it offers in my opinion some of the best camping in Michigan.

This isn't the first time I have written about Harrisville. In fact, it's pretty much a given that at least once a year @mrsbozz and I are going to travel there to camp. Last year we did a late summer trip right before school started back up and we were able to get one of the coveted sites right on the lake. This year was a bit different.

Friday night and Saturday night I got one of the sites right on the beach, Thursday night we were just across the street from the beach. That meant on Friday we had to pack up our trailer and move it to the other site. It ended up not being to big of a deal. The biggest issue was the time restrictions the park placed on checking in to your new site.

While our future site was vacated quite early in the morning, we weren't allowed to move until 1 PM when the system rolled over.

Honestly, instead of going up to ask, I think I should have just moved and told them after the fact, but @mrsbozz pointed out that we always hate when people think the rules don't apply to them, so we waited until 1 PM exactly to move.

Due to erosion, the sites right across the road from us on the first night had been closed down by the park. You weren't allowed to camp on them, but you could sit at the picnic table or do crafts run by the camp host and other DNR employees.

Rock painting is a big thing right now, and they had built this nice garden a bit away from the shore so you could put your painted rocks on display.

Personally, I don't get the whole painting rocks thing. I think part of it is because I don't have an artistic bone in my body, but I can appreciate the time and effort that people put into these rocks. Sometimes they leave them lying other places to try and brighten someone's day.

Either way, I took a photo so I could share it with you. I remember @tarazkp wrote a post about painted rocks a while ago, so he might be interested in this too.

I'm actually feeling a touch under the weather today and I am hope from work sick, so I should probably get back to bed. I wanted to write this post although it may not be as long as some of my other ones or have the same gusto that you are used to from me.

I honestly feel like a truck ran me over, but I need to be feeling better for this weekend as we are heading off again on another camping trip.

When all was said and done on Friday, we ended up with a pretty sweet site. The sound of the waves on the beach had a calming effect, and it was the perfect thing we needed to get us back into gear for the start of the school year.

I do have one more post about Harrisville State Park I am going to share later in the week.

@mipiano actually has a Rock Painting community 😉. Like you I'm not artistic but I am in awe how creative people on that little surface

Yes, some of them are quite fun. I had not seen that community before.

It's this one 😉

All these captures are absolutely amazing and stunning. I loved watching them... Thanks for sharing!!

It was my pleasure, I am glad you enjoyed them!

Yeah. I’m not a fan of painted rocks. I wonder how many of those rocks are actually 3 Billion year old yooperlites / sodalite ?

A tragedy if someone painted over one of those..

My wife has been wanting to get out rock hunting. We will probably have to wait for next summer at this point. I Don't think we are heading back to the UP again in 2024.

Ohh yeah I can see why you keep going back such a beautiful place

Thank you!

I hope you feel better, we've all been there before.

At least you got some nice pictures and some time outdoors. I didn't realize painted rocks was a thing, I guess I'm just out of the loop!

Feel better!

Thanks I appreciate it!

It's a nice place to take a vacation
